Booked this as part of a quick tour of Portugal. Superb value and great location for exploring the Algarve. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Good breakfast and facilties. Parking right outside. If you want somewhere to eat, try R.Alentejano (about a 3 minute walk). It's very good local food and wine, with a funny owner and again, amazing value. Can't fault this place and location. Have a good trip.

Peaceful and pretty hotel. Gorgeous rooms- spacious, comfortable beds-soft towels /courtyards filled with colourful flowers and the sound of water Good breakfasts- especially in the courtyard Some cheap snack bars nearby but a car is essential to enjoy the surrounding area Small but very clean pool, comfortable sun loungers and a real sense of tranquility

Just had a great seven day break at Rio Arade. It is a great place to chill out. The House is like going to your best friends home. John brings the Irish custom for hospitality to this gem of a place in sunny Algarve. Very peaceful and relaxing. The rooms are very generous and the room we had was G with its own veranda. The honesty bar was a first for me. They also have an offer of the week a bottle of local red wine for 5 Euro , what more can I say The breakfast at the house sets you up for the day , fresh fruit , ham and cheeses , toast, fresh rolls, tea and coffee and more. A hot breakfast is available at a small extra cost. You feel you are in are not just a guest at Johns home but a welcome friend. John and his team are always available to assist and advise on trips , restaurants and any other information you need. You will need a car to get around , it is the best way to explore the coast and the mountains My recommendation for a great restaurant is in Ferraguda , the restaurant O barril serve great food for both lunch and dinner. We tried several in the area but kept going back. It was a very pleasant stay and I would highly recommend to all , if you want something away from the big hotels this is not to be missed

We stayed last September (2013) and were so impressed that we paid a deposit for a stay this September. Carlos and his staff were extremely helpful and friendly and helped make our stay feel extra special. We had a wonderful room that had views over garden and pool. For breakfast there was a good choice foods including fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, bread, coffee/tea and fresh juice etc. We look forward to going back sometime soon.

A charming time in a beautiful house We booked our stay with Transeurope travel Belgium. My wife and I were delighted to be given the wonderful garden room in Rio Arade, It is most relaxing and elegant room in a charming colourful garden. We enjoyed the nearby restaurants in the village recommended by the owner. It was so peaceful and calm we particularly enjoyed the breakfasts with dresh orange juice Excellent price:quality ratio.

We came to Portugal for a wedding and found this hidden gem!! I had a call from the reception the day before we flew confirming our flight time, we would before arriving after check in closed so they arranged our key and instructions in the safe outside the main door. The room was for 3 girls, lovely big space, large bathroom, air con, separate wardrobe and fridge/tv. We also had breakfast included which was fruits, croissants, toast, cheese, meats, cereal, coffee, fresh juices, yoghurts! There was seating inside and outside which was lovely. The pool was clean and beautiful pink flowers everywhere, it was perfect! The staff were very helpful and helped us with taxi’s when we needed. On the day we were leaving which was a very early 4am pickup!!! The staff arranged some breakfast bits bought to our room and put in the fridge so we had something to eat before we left which was an amazing extra they arranged for us. We would definitely reccomend as a great base in Estombar, to get to the closest beaches is only 15/20 mins in a taxi (Uber is also available. Thank you everyone at Rio Arade for a wonderful stay!!!

We stayed for a week at the Rio Arade Manor House in mid/late April and it was the perfect break. The house and hospitality is just as described and we were very happy with our room and everything about the hotel. The pool was a bit cool at 22 degrees but warm enough for an invigorating swim even at this time of year. Most guests obviously drive here but we took a car from the airport and then spent a week on foot and public transport and there is plenty to do (though walking in high summer would be less fun. Local buses are just down the road and trains from Ferragudo just one mile away. There are not a lot of trains and buses (and there was a partial train strike on which limited our options) but they are reliable and inexpensive … and trains are half price for age 65+ so a real bargain for local journeys! The Portuguese are also very hospitable to tourists and English is widely spoken in the most unlikely of places. Highlights included the port of Lagos, which is very impressive, the museum in Poritimao and the hill town of Silves. We also enjoyed walking to Ferragudo and across the river to Portimao (both about 2.5 miles). Two good supermarkets - Coviran (Co-op) and Lidl - are also an easy walk in Parchal (which is confusingly the home of Ferragudo station!) Two more things – come in the spring and see white storks nest on chimney top, lamp posts and rooves everywhere (a massive conservation success for the Algarve) and eat out at Sanleti (we did three times!). You can also eat very cheaply and well if you eat where the locals eat and choose from the menu of the day (a massive steak and chips, wine pudding and coffee in Lagos for 12 Euros or a ludicrously cheap Feijoida (pork and bean stew) from the Pingo Doce supermarket in Portimao).

My wife and I spent 11 days here from 23rd October. The property is beautiful and well looked after by Assunta and Svetlana. The bedrooms are basic but perfectly functional, the grounds and pool area are lovely and a great place for relaxing. The local village is very quiet and the local cafes are VERY cheap and the owners were friendly and helpful especially in the Dos Amigos and the Emigrantes. There are some nice restaurants around as well amongst them were Sabor And Alenjento's both of which were easily walkable from the property. I have already mentioned Assunta but have to again because she really was as helpful as anyone could have been with her advice and organising restaurant bookings, finding out bus times and organising taxis she done it all with a smile and a cheery word. Some people have advised that access to a car is necessary but we found that between walking, cycling and ***** transport that we managed perfectly well and we are a reasonably fit couple in our 60's. All in all a lovely place for a quite break and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
