I stayed here for a week as part of a large group of paramedics, nurses and doctors from Britain who were completing the assessment phase of the Diploma in Mountain Medicine. We were out all day with long walks and various climbs/tests so were particularly tired when we returned, but the Kurhaus is so pleasant it was a pleasure each time. The hotel is old-fashioned and even somewhat shabby which I rather appreciate, as I dislike the hyper-modern and bland hotels that are growing all over the Swiss Alps nowadays. The hotel itself is over a century old and was initially built to cater to aristocratic Britons coming to the Alps to walk and mountaineer. There is a later addition to the south - a lounge hall but otherwise the hotel is much the same. There is usually a fire in the grate, food and beers can be had from a restaurant and bar downstairs and a decent meal in the large dining-room. The bedrooms themselves are all dark wood, thick carpet and quiet. The views are spectacular due to the hotel's location at an altitude of well over 2,000m. There is plenty of mountaineering, walking and skiing just out of the back door of the hotel so no need to drive once you're at the hotel. There are a couple of small shops in the village otherwise it is very isolated, which I particularly liked. The food was also excellent as was the service. The maids are out cleaning every day and we returned after long days on the mountain to find fresh sheets which was appreciated.

If you are looking for old-world, old-school charm in a quiet part of the Alps, this hotel is for you. The hotel is lovingly preserved. You could almost believe the year is 1930. While the rooms and bathrooms are small, the grand common spaces make up for it. Views are gorgeous. Service is excellent. The hotel is nicely separated from the small town of Arolla. The hiking here is superb, and you really won’t feel any of the crowds or ski infrastructure which is ever-present in much of Switzerland.

The lunch didn't deliver, the place is great and the location is magical however the food was poor quality and the price was way too much. It should have been a treat after an amazing ski from the summit of Pigne d'Arolla but sadly the restaurant failed to deliver lunch for four was not only inedible but cost a fortune. I'd have happily coped with the cost but the delivery was below standard. It must be hard to attract a cook, so simplify the menu concentrate on quality ingredients and offer good value for money. Franky the additional cost to pay in € was the final straw. Take local currency.

I used to come here as a child and was so happy to written with my family - the scenery is as spectacular now as it was then. The food at the Hotel was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Service was outstanding - this made the day perfect.

Just spent two nights here with a Botanist-group of about 20 people and was very pleased: the location is simply overwhelming with its views through an enchanting forest onto the glaciers and mountains nearby. The house is so charming and the hosts do a great job to keep it that way. You can really feel the love that is going into this place with cleverly placed historical items like luggage, books or the beautiful flowers on the windowsills. The facilities in the rooms are basic and old fashioned but functional and everything was extraordinary clean, which is not easy to maintain in such a building. Staff was very friendly, hospitable and helpful and that some service didn’t run smooth to perfection has to be because the whole team was more or less new on the job…The first evening we had a very nice fish course: regarding the fact, that another group of about 40 people and several regular guest having dinner at the same time, a brave undertaking ;) So we had to wait some time but stayed well informed and never felt disregarded. Prices are a bit on the steep side, but the genius loci paid it all off… p.s. I‘m in no way related to the hosts or paid in any way for this post - just happy that there are still places like this to be found in Switzerland
