Although she retains a lot of the original character of her 1970's construction, Solmate has been completely renovated for modern day comfort and style. She is our family's cherished beach retreat so availability is intentionally limited to preserve the home's boutique quality and condition. We welcome you to enjoy it during the limited number of weeks it's open each year!Beach living at Solmate is conveniently all on one floor. The master bedroom with its wonderful ocean views and private access to the back deck has a king bed while two other bedrooms have queen beds. The master shares a full bathroom with the second queen bedroom. The third bedroom has a queen bed as well and has a view of the front garden. There is also one larger bedroom with 2 full beds that works well for children or adults. The two full bathrooms each have a tub that makes bathing children easier. The kitchen is fully equipped including French press coffee maker as well as traditional drip style/Kcup combo, waffle maker, and Ninja blender. If you don’t feel like cooking, don’t worry, there are fabulous restaurants nearby for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Although Solmate is very child friendly with step stool in bathroom, booster seat, and pack n/play, please know that pets and smoking are not allowed. The Folly Pier, completely replaced in 2023 with restaurant/bar, and Center Street with all the shops and restaurants are only a 20 minute walk down the beach or 5 minute golf cart ride. A 10 minute walk in the opposite direction up the beach lands you in the county park and provides for the most amazing sunsets in Charleston. No matter where you are on the beach, keep a look out for the dolphins....they are everywhere. And if you like a treasure hunt, there is no limit to the number of sharks’ teeth found in the sand. This house was designed by and built for a psychiatrist in 1972…. with a hangover from the 60’s. She used this place as her office and residence; and she wanted all her patients to experience the relaxing tranquil pond view when entering the office so they had to walk around the back to gain entry. (no worries for you lazy types-- the garage door on the front of the house gets you in directly to the kitchen). With a huge living room facing the pond you can relax inside with AC, or outside in the back yard feeling the breeze lull off the pond. The 2 bedrooms and the couch-bed in living room nook can sleep 6 heartbeats. Master bedroom has a King bed; Second bedroom has a Queen, and the sleeping nook off the living room has a twin /trundle pull out. Kitchen and bath are spacious and still sport the retro chic yellow countertops from the 1970’s. So you will be chillin’ in a vintage classic. Your enclosed garage is a great place to safely store surfboards and bikes.And with a 1 minute walk to the best beach access on Folly this place delivers true island feel. Because at 13th St East Access there is no car parking, just a path through the oaks and palms and vines – so you feel like you could be on the movie set of Blue Lagoon, Swiss Family Robinson, or even Gilligan’s Island…Let your daydreams wander as you come out of the shade and onto the beach. But just be prepared to have them analyzed back at the office…errr Sunset Shack. With the outdoor shower you can rinse the salt and sand away before grilling to the max on your private patio with a gas grill. Spread out into the separate living/dining area’s double La-Z-Boy couches w/ ottomans or a recliner to relax; or dine in and play one of the board games in comfort at the table... After your done exploring Folly or visiting Charleston, which is only 15 minutes away; wind down and enjoy a night in with the new smart 65" HDTV/Blue Ray DVD. WIFI available. A king sized bed is in the master bedroom along with plenty of storage to nicely house all of your possessions. The 2nd bedroom although smaller in size has a queen sized bed along with providing ample storage as well. Rest assured, since both the mattresses and all the pillows are encased in allergy/bed bug protectors. The linens are freshly sanitized and the beds are already made upon your arrival along with bath towels. Flat screens are also available in both of the bedrooms.
