Stayed at this hotel with my partner beginning of November. We had a terrible experience from start to finish. We paid £230.00 for 2 nights B@B. Reason for staying waswe were visiting near by care home for my mother in laws last days. 1. Put in a very basic dirty room. Bathroom was basic with no hairdryer. i slipped in the bath even with a bathmat down and bruised my leg badly. 2. We explained to reception as we booked directly at the last minute we were there for the reason stated above. We were put in a room next door to a room that was getting work done to it and had consent doors slamming. We had to spend night in Care Home so were sleeping during the day. Due to noise level we had no sleep. 3. Breakfast was terrible Sausages tasted of soap, Coffee was awful. We skipped breakfast the following morning due to the standard of food. 4. Got moved to another room the second night, TV not working. Shower Room was terrible my partner went to have a shower and the shower Tray flooded. On closer inspection the outlet was blocked with dirt and hair. Only One set of Towels. 5. No Evening Meals. We have stayed in lots of 3 star Hotels in Scotland and England and must say this was the worst we have stayed at. We have sent countless emails asking for some sort of refund due to our experience but all they offered us was a stay at their honeymoon suite ( when available) which we dont want. As the women on reception was helpful and did apologised and had a nice manner I have given it 1 star. As it is the only 3 star hotel in Forfar you would think they would try to upgrade the hotel, we stayed before about 8yrs ago and had no complaints but this time it was just awful. Overall the hotel is lovely. Rooms and spacious and clean, staff are lovely. Breakfast lovely too. Downside, no information about the hotel or the spa in the room and nothing shared on check in. Some basic information, spa info, check out time, WiFi password would be useful. Absolute high light was Buddy the African grey in the bar, despite his fruit language 😁 Told me f*ck off in between sweet little chirps and uncanny telephone noises!

Very tired hotel and grumpy staff, especially Fiona who does breakfasts. As a vegetarian there was no veggie option on the menu sat night, I was then offered Mac cheese or an omelette. Fiona then asked if I wanted black pudding, and served me pork sausages and then argued with me they were vegan. Thank goodness we went to ‘Chapter and Verse’ down the road where we had a lovely meal, and they said the Royal did not have a good name for food and the owner trying to sell but not able to. Probably because of reputation!

The hotel is centrally located and was perfect for our trip to see our son married. After arriving we found the hotel carpark and walked along a covered alley where the gym is located and found the hotel entrance on the left as you come from the alley. The reception is up a flight of stairs (there is a lift if required). We were welcomed warmly and allocated our double room. The room was basic but adequate and had almost everything needed (no hair dryer in the room but available on request from reception) The first night of our stay was a little rowdy in the hotel as Scotland were playing Germany in the opening game of the Euro's, but everyone was good humoured and no trouble. We didnt realise that the Hotel had a nightclub also, but thankfully this disnt cause us any noise issues, however the same cant be said for the boy racers and seagulls! The breakfast had limited choice but was adequate and well presented. All in all a good weekend was had and the hotel staff were friendly and accomodating, even the resident African Grey Parrot who liked to let us all know he was there. If ever we are back up in Forfar we would haveno hesitation in staying again.

Very comfy bed and decent soft furnishings. Quiet despite the nightclub being downstairs. Was a little disappointed by the maintenance of the room - leaking shower head, broken toilet seat, tv and shelf. Also up a lot of stairs with poor lighting. Very basic room and not really worth what I paid for it.

looking for somewhere to use as a base in 2024 for hillwalking we decided to try the Royal Hotel. Staying overnight in what was a horrible night we had a good stay in a warm and welcoming environment. We had dinner in the bistro and the food and service was fantastic, breakfast was great in the morning too. Our room was, we believe, the only family room which was basically two rooms with an adjoining door, one bathroom and space to sleep four. We had a decent sleep in comfortable and clean bedding. We made use of the pool which was heated. All in all a good hotel and we will be back

A lovely hotel in the centre of Forfar, and a great location for visiting all the attractions in the area. Free car parking (bonus in a busy town) Use of the spa and leisure centre. Nice breakfast and restaurant also offers lunches and evening meals. Staff are very good, a special mention goes to Ellice Brannan who served us and helped us throughout our stay (4 nights), always with a smile.

Although fairly unobtrusive from the front of the building once inside it’s quite an Aladdins cave of well placed and thought out decor. Our long time friend from Forfar suggested this establishment for my son and I to call upon whilst visiting him from our home in Tayside. Already looking forward to the return. Super Braw Aye
