Pestana Miramar Garden & Ocean Hotel

Have had the loveliest stay at Pestana Miramar Funchal for 10 days really nice hotel reasonable food fair amount of choice staff lovely very helpful room nice Entertainment every night Only a short walking distance to centre of Funchal but can get the bus right across from the hotel very cheap Paying for drinks and food you pay by card they don't accept cash Restaurants in Funchal accept card and cash Madeira is a beautiful island If choosing to go on trips either use the local buses but if booking a mini bus trip try to book in the shops that state no timeshare as you can get caught out

I went with my adult son in January 2025. I had a room in a building ( called perestralla) attached to the main hotel via a short bridge . I feel like I was maybe one of the first to stay there . The room was lovely , freshly decorated with a huge tv, nice lighting and a comfy chair and footstool . The bathroom had good lighting and a magnifying mirror for shaving / makeup . The shower was a big walk in, though the floor got a bit slippery . The terrace was big, with a table and 2 chairs plus a sun Lounger . It had open rails which allowed full sun, though potentially less privacy from neighbours. I had a partial sea view . There is a road between the hotel and the sea which can be noisy . This building has its own pool, billiards / chess room and communal sitting room . It felt a bit odd being the only person in the building . I loved it because I don’t like crowds . My son had a room in the main building overlooking the pool. I liked the breakfast buffet selection , however found the evening buffet not really to our taste . There are other waiter served restaurant to book instead . The tropical gardens were the main reason we chose this hotel , and they were stunning

Went there in March through RCI and first got a dark and depressive apartment in the ground floor with no sun light nor view, instead a smell of mold. At reception they were quite rude and unwilling to help when we were asking for a room with some sun to the balcony. Finally we found the Finnish office (at reception they did not instruct us anyhow) with Rita who kindly helped us and we finally got a slightly better appartment. I have been at Miramar once before but was this time really disappointed. I heard that RCI members nowadays get the worse rooms and I felt that the personnel was arrogant and not willing to help, especially the lady at reception. The pools look beautiful but the water was too cold to swim. The gym equipment from the 90s I guess. The restaurant was closed. There is a small indoor pool with heated water but there was no room to swim as it was always packed with other guests, it’s a shame they don’t heat the lovely outdoor pools. I love Madeira but it seemed to me they are having already too much tourists and you don’t feel everywhere welcome anymore. I stopped travelling to the Canaries already years ago and now decided to do the same with Madeira. However, If I still deside to come back one day, the resort is definitely not the Miramar.. The three stars are for location only. Tip to the management: the customer service at your reception was poor, you should do something about it. We as RCI members felt to be treated like 2nd class guests.

Just on our last day here at the miramar and we have had a great week. The room is great very big and perfect for us. The hotel seems quite quiet but that is perfect for us it’s very relaxing. My only slightly negative comment is the breakfast buffet as in the hot choices are just bizarre for breakfast service. But that has not spoilt the overall experience at all. We would definitely stay again given the opportunity

We used both the restaurants in the hotel. The food was excellent and we visited several times from the Hotel Pestana Grand. The staff were really friendly, and a special to Carlos (AKA Michael Jackson!). Every meal we had was first class, great chef .

Fantastic facilities including swimming pools and jacuzzi. We had a lovely room with a great balcony and views. Everywhere was extremely clean and all staff very friendly. Easy walk into the city and local shops. Would recommend as good value for money
