Riverresort Donauschlinge

Our rooms were huge with generous balconies and perfect views of the river and mountains. Their decor and bathrooms were dated and it wasn’t very easy to use the showers, plus the rooms could have benefited from kettles or even just water as one really wanted to hang around and enjoy the view. The restaurant was large and busy. We dined in but the food was very basic and none of us wanted to finish our dishes. The children’s menu was poor. There was a pleasant salad bar and the ice creams were excellent. Service was good also and generally the staff were lovely. Decent bike store and pool. Unusually, this hotel has been built on top of a Roman legionary fortress and a fraction of a gatehouse can be viewed but otherwise the archaeology mostly covered or obliterated although some other fantastic ruins up the road. Check in was busy, bureaucratic and slow with three different stages where you had to Q each time. One night here was easily enough for us but it makes a useful stop in the Danube trail.

This was a great hotel, in a fabulous location for the Danube cycle route. The restaurant staff were lovely and the food was great. We had breakfast included in our stay which offered a substantial choice of dishes, Including fresh omelettes. The bedroom was clean and modern, although no AC. We left the windows in the bathroom and bedroom open, with the door of the bathroom open to allow air to circulate, which worked well and we got a good sleep. The hotel also had a bike shop, for repairs should you need them. Overall a good stay.

Stayed at this hotel one night as part of a bike trip with friends. The location of this hotel is unsurpassed - right on the bend of the Danube. The view is just breathtaking and it's interesting to watch the light change -location-wise, you can't beat it. The room was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was very extensive and delicious - I'm still thinking about my tasty omelette that was made to order. Dinner was very good too, although service was not attentive. Front desk staff are very professional and helpful.

We rode the Danube and stopped here by chance. It’s sort of a resort but a little back in time. I really liked it. The room had a giant skylight that you could open to let in cool air in the evening. The dinner and breakfast buffets were huge. Prices were reasonable. We swam in the faux Grecian pool which was fun. Please note that if you are biking from Passau the bike trail ends and you need to take a small ferry which stops in the early evening. So to be sure of being in the right side of the river, you can cross a bridge about five miles earlier.

We stayed here for 1 night as part of a bike tour. In an amazing setting right by the river with a lovely huge terrace for drinks and dining. Rooms were large and spacious albeit a bit dated but that didn’t worry us. Rooms have a balcony overlooking the river or gardens. Lovely small wellness centre with pool, outdoor deck with sun beds, sauna, steam room etc which was a nice area to relax after cycling. Great cakes, good evening buffet and good mix and quality of food. Busy hotel as a major stopover for many tours but we enjoyed it.

I came to this hotel expecting a nice, relaxing, four-star hotel stay and I was definitely disappointed. Starting with the room. We were in the side of the hotel furthest from the dining room, so just the location made our stay quite frustrating: getting anywhere in the hotel was like solving a maze. We did not get a river view and were therefore overlooking the parking lot. The room itself was not renovated and old-fashioned. We were four people in the room and two of us were sleeping on a pull-out couch. This is already disappointing considering the four stars. The mattress of our 'bed' was extremely thin, and so was the pillow. We were only given thin linens and no blanket. The bathroom was also a problem: the lights flickered, there was only a plug that did not charge our phones, the hairdryer would stop working after 5 minutes of use, and the shower water ran brown. The heater in the bathroom could not be turned on, so it was always a little cold. We were also not given enough towels: for four people we were given two robes and only two big towels. The wellness area was nice, but again not up to the level of what a four-star hotel should be. The pool was big, with some jets, but cold (very cold). The sauna was small but nice, sauna towels were not provided at the pool. The food was decent. The soups were the highlight of the stay, everything else was a bit bland and not very flavourful. The staff was helpful but never asked if we were done with the meal and just took our plates, which was not great. The vegetarian options were lacking a bit. The location and view were great though, we saw a beautiful sunset, and the terrace on the Donau is fantastic.
