Gero Onsen Fugaku

It was a comfortable, family-run Ryokan style inn. There is free parking for those who drive. It is also walking distance from the train station. We arrived after dark and the staff told us there was no more dinner, so they recommended us a dinner place nearby. For breakfast which was included, it was a full set and really delicious Japanese platter. We ate to our heart’s content. The onsen is located on the basement and the 4th floor, I like it specially for the rooftop onsen. The men and women onsen will swap at certain timings to allow each gender to enjoy the facilities at the rooftop. They give clear instructions on a piece of paper, and you just need to look at the colour of the cloth hanging outside the onsen. The hotel is located near the town centre, so you can walk around easily.

An old hotel that retains its grandness.. Although at check in, I was informed there's a charge only if I take the flowery yukata. There are free surprises in the Japanese room every day. Clean Japanese socks, towels in bags and a different Japanese sweet every day with Japanese tea My room faces the Hida River, it was beautiful looking out. It is very near the rail line, but it didn't disturb me. And I suppose all river facing hotels face the same light loving insects. But if you follow the instructions placed in the room, it is alright

Traditional ryokan hotel with only real Japanese Overall spacious and well maintained hotel You can relax quietly while visiting the snowy mountains at a very reasonable price Free parking Very very large and various natural hot spring public baths Two luxury open-air baths based on men It's a bit far but there is a bus transfer so no burden The road is improved, so rental cars are enough for snow tires. Very good breakfast and Kaiseki (dinner) for the season It was a little long, but it didn't smell at all and it was nice to have a atmosphere. Small but with local souvenirs and gifts

The hotel is very good. Before arriving 1 hour, because of heavy snow, I immediately changed my accommodation. So I looked for a new one. I decided to sleep at Gero Onsen. I found the hotel and chose the room type when I arrived. There was a small problem because it seemed like the hotel asked to check first and waited for 10 minutes. I got a room on the 10th floor. It was big and had a beautiful view. The onsen was very very good. It was a mixed room separated by gender on the 8th floor. There were both rooms and open-door access to the outdoor. The view of the snow was fluffy. It was suitable for all ages. Children and the elderly loved it. The breakfast was varied, but too salty for me... In conclusion, I was not tired anymore and was impressed. I want to stay again. Note: The bathroom seemed to be cold water. We had to use the hot water in the shared bathroom (onsen). - I couldn't find the water in the room. There was only a kettle with cold water for boiling water. But there was a tea set provided. 🥲 So I didn't know which floor to get the hot water. I was afraid of being thirsty, so I went down to buy some water (I'm not sure if I didn't prepare everything).

The hotel has few rooms, but it is very clean, tidy and warm. The food is Japanese style and the ingredients are very fresh. The indoor and outdoor hot springs are on two different floors, which is not very convenient. The service is very good. When checking in, they will introduce the hotel facilities and some precautions for check-in. Every service staff is very enthusiastic. Alipay and UnionPay cards are not accepted for payment at check-out, and it is not very convenient to use cash.

The waiters were very polite and kind and we had a very good experience. The rooms are very comfortable. Each room has a private bath, so you can enjoy the hot spring in the room. There is enough space and two beds are provided. The hotel provides two meals, and the food is excellent. It also provides a shuttle bus to Gero Station, which is a very happy experience.
