My husband and I stayed here one night in room 302. It was perfect. Very clean and spacious and exceeded our expectations. Great location in downtown Gettysburg with plenty around in walking distance. We would stay again! Another nice bonus was the coffee maker and microwave, some coffees and teas and muffins and fresh apples.

My husband, 12 yo son and I stayed at this hotel during a weekend stay to visit the battlefields. I would definitely recommend it. We loved the history of the building and the rooms are spacious and nice appointed. We also got a chance to peek into the Lincoln room and it made me wish that it had been available when I made the reservation as it was beautiful. The bar and restaurant next door were also very convenient, as was the location right in the middle of town. Our only complaint would be the noise - which the hotel clearly knows about as the room comes with ear plugs. Given the lack of insulation in the early 1800s and that the hotel is 8 feet from a busy ‘highway’ that goes through town (the highway goes right through downtown Gettysburg), the road noise is very loud. If you are a light sleeper, be warned.

Wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of it all. We stayed in the John Burnes suite. Room was huge, which made for a relaxing evening when out all day. Coffee and complimentary breakfast snacks in the morning was a nice added touch. We did not hear street noise, as this suite is in the back of the building. Elevator straight to the fourth floor was good. We wanted to eat at the restaurant/bar downstairs, but decided on Italian for dinner, and had stumbled upon Mama Venturas right down the block, and it was amazing! Free parking was a bonus. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is a bit different in that it seems to operate like a B&B - no desk staff after 8pm, and in the am at check-out. The included parking is off of the alley behind the hotel, fairly common for Gettysburg. The location of the hotel is good, however a room at the front may have a bit of street noise as it is on a very busy street. We stayed in the Lincoln Suite, which is roomy and attractive. Decorated in a eclectic style, it leans a bit towards minimalistic, but is quite comfortable. The room could benefit from a pouf ottoman to rest your feet on after a long day exploring. I did not find any drinks coasters. The area rug in the bedroom was a problem for us - it is easy to trip on as it does slip around and wrinkle up. If you have mobility issues, do be cautious. Was our room noisy? It is towards the rear, so street noise was not much of an issue. Interior noise from guests was a bit. While common in hotels of all types, it is more so in older buildings. I believe the person above us got in their 10k steps while we watched an episode of Moonshiners. Hallway doors slammed LOUDLY often. Day 2 there was a bit of construction outside of our window ? at 6:58AM. Power saw, hammering, drilling - stopped after about 2 hours. We loved the train though! For the (even off-season) room rate I was surprised that they do not provide robes, and that the provided guest toiletries (Beekman) are not a bit more upscale, nor are they replenished. The shampoo & conditioner are in super hard, small plastic bottles, so it’s difficult work to get the product out. There was not a shower cap or vanity kit, and I don't know if they could be requested. The tub and shower were both very nice, and we enjoyed them. Please consider providing more than 2 towels. Sadly, we did not enjoy the food items or canned juice left for breakfast! :( I will not say more than that. There are some good restaurants in easy walking distance. It is a nice hotel, and comfortable. Good parking, and in a convenient location.

Let me start by saying, that the location is fantastic. The historic hotel is pretty and the suite we had, Tilley Pierce Suite, was nice but the description mentions a smart tv in the living room, which it did not. There was a lovely basket with two clementines, an apple and two wrapped pastries. Two bottles of water and orange juice. Continental breakfast. We stayed two nights and we were gone most of the day. When we returned, our bed was made, our towels were refreshed but oddly enough, the Continental breakfast was not. The glasses we used were not washed or replaced and the lovely cloth napkins we used were still there. I found that quite odd. Because of the location, I may give it another chance, try another suite. It is truly magical being in Gettysburg at the holidays...

We had stayed at the hotel under a different name and management (preCovid) but, wanted to see what was done. The decor is now more modern: the room had less furnishing and more space. My husband kept saying "something" was missing and still questions "minimalism" as a way of living. However, it was still clean and cozy as we hoped. The staff was pleasant. We found out that they were still hiring and everyone was pitching in to cover - even if it wasn't their job. Having the restaurant on the first floor was great on a cold, wet night. The food was well done and ,again, a pleasant staff. A few small things kept me from saying excellent but, I see the UNION is still a work in progress. And, we there during a very hectic Christmas Festival in town. We'll be back to see how far they got in 3- 6 months or a year. We were in the Elizabeth Thorne room and for those who want "less street noise" take this room! It was wonderfully quiet.

My husband and I stay in Gettysburg pretty often, and I have always wanted to stay at the historic Union Hotel. It's beautiful, conveniently located, spotless, pleasantly decorated, and had everything we needed for a brief visit. One of the reasons I selected the Union is because it mentioned that it is quiet at night. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. There is nothing that can be done about road noise. Neighboring guests are something else. Loud voices projected into our bedroom for hours. Then in very early morning they hit their snooze alarm for over an hour, making it impossible to fall back asleep. It would have been perfect if all guests were on the same page with the feel of the hotel. The quiet time advertised should be communicated to guests.

I have stayed at the Union Hotel/James Gettys hotel about ten times prior to my stay here in July of 2023. We always like the downtown location and bigger accommodations and off street parking. My concern is with the new ownership here. While trying to sleep here I was hearing loud hammering at 10:00pm coming from the ground floor where they are building a bar and restaurant. The hammering went on for another 10 minutes and was not stopping. There was no way I could sleep or relax with this construction work happening one floor below me. I went downstairs to this area and found the room where this work was being done and asked if they could please stop. The guy with the hammer, who is an owner, walked up to me and barked at me" DO YOU WANT TO HAVE ME MOVE YOU TO A DIFFERANT ROOM? Uhhmm no, I do not want to change rooms at 10:00 pm, I want you to stop hammering. I don't feel I was out of line asking for this but this guy was really P.O. that I dare ask. His wife was there and calmed him down and the construction did come to a stop. They did take $125.00 off my bill but this guy really put a negative vib on my stay. I wonder how the noise will be in the rooms over the bar area when they open next week? I stayed in the Lydia Hamilton Suite.

We thought we were getting a room. It turned out to be a suite. A coniinental breakfast was provided. It was in the middle of downtown. Several restaurants, and shopping was available within walking distance. The service was good and the price was fine. Within 3 miles of the battlefield.
