Bed & Breakfast Hotel Malts

Henk and Annemarie are fantastic hosts responding very quickly to any questions we had even before our arrival. The hotel and rooms (very good size) are both modern and classsic at the same time. If needed, there is a breakfast room that is open all day after breakfast where one can enjoy a tea/coffee or even your lunch, snack, dinner with an honor bar. Henk is very thorough in his explanation of the area attractions of Haarlem when you first arrive. The hotel is an easy walk to the train station and it is a quick train ride into Amsterdam. We loved being in Haarlem. It still has a city vibe but smaller and closer to the tulips which were the main reason for our visit. We were also so thankful after a long flight to be able to have our room ready even earlier than the check-in time. Yes, as someone mentioned in an earlier review there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to the first floor and thankfully Hank is there to help you with your bags up and down. I would say if we were to return, the only thing I would change is to be on the next floor up because the hotel is above a restaurant and I did hear the kitchen door (I presume that is what it was) swinging shut, chairs and tables moving and a little bit of music until it shut down around 12-1 am, especially on the weekend. However, it is closed on Mondays. If you are a heavier sleeper this will not bother you at all. Henk and Annemarie are what make this stay the most memorable!

Anne Marie and Henk were incredible and gracious hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and to provide advice about nearby places to travel to and things in town to experience. Their breakfasts were wonderful, diverse and filling. And our room was spacious and very comfortable and quiet. Haarlem is charming, very historic and walkable—Malts is 10 minutes from the train station and only 4 minutes from the airport bus stop. We easily visited Keukenhoff and enjoyed the scenic bus ride there, not to mention the beautiful gardens.

My wife and I cannot say enough good things about this bed-and-breakfast. The owners, Annemarie and Henk, are so very friendly, and really make you feel at home. We arrived very late one evening, but instructions on how to enter, were very clear. They communicated wonderfully with us, and made sure we knew where to go upon arrival. When we got to our room, everything was clean, and as expected. The next morning, when we went down for breakfast, we were greeted by name. Henk took the time to talk with me and my wife at breakfast, going over the area, and asked us if we had plans. He made recommendations, and just shared about the area. It was a great introduction that likely would’ve happened the night before! The breakfast itself is wonderful. Very European. Very simple, very tasty. Selection of breads, meats, cheeses, and other Dutch delicacies. Plenty of coffee, tea, and freshly squeezed orange juice. The breakfast room itself is so charming. It feels like something out of an old movie. He has nice music playing in the background, nicely decorated, small tables, everywhere. They keep it open in the evening so you can hang out, or grab some fruit, coffee, or a drink. They even have a “honesty bar“, or you can grab a wine, beer, or soda if you don’t feel like walking around outside. You just leave money there or bill it to your room. It’s just a nice little touch. They also have little cookies you can snack on in the evening. We were able to use the bikes that they had for rent, and that was wonderful for getting around the local area. Easy ride to the beach as well as the national park. The host went out of their way to make sure that we knew where we were going, and how to use the bike and locks. We have nothing bad to say about this family, and they wonderfully run business. As we were leaving early in the morning, on the day of departure, they even took the time to make us to go breakfast sandwiches, and juice. That was not needed, but very much appreciated. They do have some steps that you will have to encounter, just be aware. We are young and healthy, so I had no issues with that at all. They will gladly help with your luggage if you need some help going up the steps. The location could not be better. It is a 10 minute walk to the train station, 10 minute walk to the windmill, 2 to 3 minute minute walk to the town Square, everything is very close by.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Malts. It is wonderfully located, minutes away from the bus stop after riding bus 300 from the airport, and a quick walk to the train station. We stayed in the large room for 3 people, and is was spacious and comfortable. There was a fan in the room to help cool it down, since the weather was fairly warm. The breakfast spread was delicious, and Henk taught us how to eat like the Dutch on our first morning, and I ended up buying Hagelslag to bring home with me. Henk and Annemarie are excellent hosts, providing information and cheerful conversation. I hope to visit the beautiful city of Haarlem again sometime, and I would definitely stay at Hotel Malts again.

Every positive recommendation wee read about Hotel Malts we found to be true. The hosts are true professionals, and always available to answer questions, help with luggage, give advice, etc. The breakfasts we were served looked exactly like the one pictured on their web page, and it was always served with a smile. Our room was comfortable, spotless, quiet, and centrally located so as to provide a rest during days of touring Haarlem. Our experience could NOT have been better.

Perfect in every way. Stayed 3 nights and could not fault anything. As previous reviews say Henk and Annemarie are the best hosts. Breakfast is delicious with so much choice. Tea and coffee available at any time and also have an honesty fridge with drinks and snacks. Perfect position right in the centre of Haarlem and restaurants all around. Room was spotless and very spacious we booked the large double room. Alot of stairs so might be an issue if you have mobility problems. They are very happy to share local knowledge and help you plan your day with great suggestions. We got the bus no 300 from the airport to bus stop Centrum/Verwulft in Haarlem and the hotel is only a 5 min or so walk away. Do yourself a favour and stay here.
