Hotels with Parking in Haast

Very good double room, I actually only need to book a room. The front desk is a Chinese girl. We arrived late and posted the key at the door. I think I will stay in this hotel in the future. Our room has a simple kitchen. Of course, there is also a large kitchen in the caravan park next door. I think this place is very comfortable when the weather is good

On our way from Fox Glacier to Lake Wanaka on 18 July 2022, the state highway beyond Haast was closed for 2 days due to fallen trees and flooding. My wife and I had no choice but to stay in Haast waiting the road to be reopened. We were luckily enough to have stayed at the Heritage Park Motel. Chris and his wife were the kindest hosts we had ever encountered. Chris kept checking for us the road status and even allowed us to stay beyond the usual check-out time free to wait for the latest news. After knowing we had to stay for one more night, he voluntarily offered us discount for the stay. We are truly grateful for their great assistance and care.

We were staying in a two bedroom “family” room, for a cost of $207.00 for a night. First off, we couldn’t park in front of our unit which is a drag when you’re unloading. The sliding door was on its last legs. You had to use all of your strength to close it and locking it was almost impossible. The room(s) itself were dreadful. Room one had a giant bed and not much else. Room two had two single beds. There was no cutlery or plates, not even a toaster. And not even a fridge. The back door opened onto a communal hallway and there was a tiny fridge in there but it was really old and small. The shower had good pressure but it was over a bath which is dangerous getting in and out, plus it had a shower curtain which I hate because it inevitably sticks to you while you’re showering. We ate at the restaurant and the food was okay. Not bad, not great - just mediocre. The staff seemed really nice though and the chef was enjoying himself with his job. On another note, there are heaters in each room which you can’t switch off, which is plain weird. We honestly couldn’t wait to leave. We’re now in Hokitika in an Airbnb with two gorgeous bedrooms, a proper bathroom and full kitchen - all for less money than we paid for Haast Heartland Hotel.
