Bourou NOGUCHI Hakodate
4.3/551 Reviews
Been to Hokkaido many times but first time in Hakodate. Bourou Noguchi is one of the most expensive hotels in Yunokawa area. The Noguchi Group of hotels operates quite a few hotels in the Donan area (southern Hokkaido). Seems most, if not all, of the room are fitted with private onsen. We have a duplex room with living room and bedroom on the lower floor, and bath room on the upper floor. The room size is enormous by any Japan standard. With a premium price you pay, you get almost everything you need in a room, coffee beans and maker, free mini bar drinks, Loccitane toiletries, private in-room onsen, an empty Japanese style living room with no furniture where you can do yoga, two TVs. The room has windows on two sides facing east and west. The hotel as a whole takes a western style of decoration rather than a traditional style. I guess since most of the rooms has its own onsen, as a result the public bath on the top floor is not very outstanding, however, there are free drinks and ice cream on the lounge next to the onsen entrance. And the lounge has a nice view on Hakodate city and Mount Hakodate. Every room has its designated dining room in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Both meals serve Japanese and western style dishes. My personal opinion is that Japanese dishes is better. Service in restaurant and front desk is as good as you will find in a Japanese hotel. On the ground floor there is a library, and a bar opens until late. There is not much in the surrounding area except onsen hotels, however, there are noodle shop, sushi restaurant and drug store nearby.
Hotel&Spa Century Marina Hakodate
4.7/5287 Reviews
We stayed at Century Marina for our first night in Hokkaido and originally chose it for its proximity to most of the sites we wanted to see in Hakodate. It's just a few minute walk from the train station with plenty of sidewalks so pulling our suitcases was no issue. The hotel also has a large parking lot if you choose to drive. It's also just a few minute walk from the warehouse district and the older area up the hill where a lot of historical embassies and churches are. The hotel's breakfast buffet is an experience itself with an extensive spread of both Japanese and Western food options. You will reserve a time slot when checking in, but even then you should expect a 10-20 minute wait in the morning to get your table, so its best to go up before your reserved time. This hotel also has one of the best rooftop onsen I've seen, with wonderful views of the whole marina and hill. When booking I didn't realize there was a hot springs so this was a nice surprise. Our room was right next to the elevator but very quiet and clean. This is a newer hotel too so everything felt very fresh and well-maintained. We checked in using Japanese, but the hotel has check-in info packets and signs in English so this is a good option for non-Japanese speaking guests as well.
Heiseikan Shiosaitei

This hotel is located at the Yunokawa area in Hakodate. It's reachable within 20 minutes from Hakodate bus terminal. There are three buses serving this area: 95, 95A and 96. There is also a direct bus from/to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto station with a fee of ¥900/person/way. We booked a Japanese-style room with a private onsen bath facing the ocean. The view is beyond our expectation. The room is super spacious - consisting of the entrance area, sleeping area, living room, a toilet, and bath area. They are still using the actual key instead of keycards. They served some snacks, tea, free beers, bottled water and cold tea. The room we booked also provided halfboard (dinner and breakfast). The food was amazing with many varieties, including our favourites - king crabs. All was served in a buffet style so you can eat this crab as much as you want.

Yunokawa Prince Hotel Nagisatei

It has been almost 3 years that we have not visited Japan. Once Japan opened tourism, we packed our bags. We decided this trip will be a trip to enjoy some onsen (hot springs bath) and to see some fall foliage in colors. We picked Hakodate for onsen. This hotel offers in room open air bath tub on the balcony with a 180 degree ocean view!! Our activities were focused on taking onsen and having great food at the hotel buffet restaurant. After a great onsen bath, we wore the clothing they provided to us to the restaurant, very layback and relaxing!! There were many families, old and very young at the hotel over the weekend. So we think families take short vacations here. Strongly recommend to add Hakodate and this hotel to be part of your tour in Japan !
Hanabishi Hotel

I stayed in a room with an open-air bath, but there were some issues with the bath facilities in the room. Normally, a bath faucet will not come off unless you apply a lot of force, but in the bath in this room, the faucet alone cannot stop the water, so something like a rubber sheet is added to stop the water, and it is necessary to apply a gentle force. so that the stopper will shift. In fact, when I was taking a bath, my foot got caught in the stopper, so I fixed it, but a few hours later, the hot water in the bathtub was empty... In the early morning, I struggled for about 30 minutes trying to fix the stopper (it takes some skill). Although I was able to get the water to fill up, I was told that it would take several hours for the water to fill up, so I couldn't take a bath in the morning. There's no point in choosing this room. I think it would be better not to continue operating with the stopper easily coming off. In the end, there was no apology or consideration for this matter, and it was inconvenient for smokers, depending on the location of the guest room. Inside the large hall. It's tough to only have one place to smoke. Furthermore, you will be asked about your meal choices the day before, especially Japanese and Western breakfast choices, but I would like you to at least show me the contents of each menu, not just Japanese and Western. The next day, I was served a meal, and I thought it would have been better to choose a Japanese/Western version. Also, the rooms with open-air baths are pure Japanese-style rooms, but we would appreciate it if you would consider converting them into Japanese-Western rooms, or at least adding a bed. I would like to alleviate some of the burden on my lower back. . This time it was disappointing.
