Taru Villas Mawella - Tangalle

The hotel is a small boutique style property directly on a beautiful sandy beach with a few other hotels and bars nearby, but it’s quiet and peaceful away from the road. We loved the food especially the Sri Lankan options, the amazing staff and relaxed atmosphere. The property itself is beautiful, has 2 pools a restaurant and plenty of places to sit around and relax. They arranged yoga for us each day, transport around the area and massages were available if you need more relaxation! This is the 2nd Taru Villas we’ve stayed in, this time for a full week and we’d definitely recommend. Thank you to all of the staff who really took care of us.

Like the sister hotel in Galle, this is a truly fantastic hotel that mixed calm, serene, manicured and charming with luxury. Not in the western pretentious high spec way, but in a delightfully authentic Sri Lankan way. Right on the beach, but with private areas, generous lawns and beautiful spacious rooms. Only 7/8 rooms which make it deathly quiet. But a short walk up and down the beach we found busier places to eat and drink. The beach is empty but for a few school kids and the fishing boats and the odd tourist. Heaven

Sitting in a calm bay in Tangale , this awesome property feels like a 5* private villa as you would get from any top line hotel. . It is however a small operation with service that exceeds expectations. The staff is the kindest you will encounter, the kitchen crew whip up amazing and tasty local and international food. The pools are the center of tranquility , the beach provides hours of fun for kids , crabs , body boards. I’m a bit hesitant to write this as it may become busy but during our visit the beach was quiet and very peaceful. Highly recommended as a short break destination. We’ll be back.

This was our third visit to our favourite resort. It never lets us down. The location is great. Mawella beach is not the one for surfing or thrilling nightlife but for a totally relaxing stay at a (almost) private beach. This time we took half board, which we found to be a good choice. The kitchen is ambitious and we were very pleased with the meals. That also goes for the breakfast. The service is unbeatable from all in the staff and with great attention to detail. The rooms in the main hotel are all individual and very comfortable. The three rooms in the new building all have ocean view and are also very comfortable. We highly recommend Taru Villas Mawella.

We only had one night here as part of a touring holiday, but more by luck than planning our plans changed and gave us the best experience in that time. This is small, high quality hotel on a gorgeous beach. The hotel is a mix of rooms in the old governor's house and more modern blocks. We were given an upgrade to a room in the old house, this was huge complete with a small plunge pool and a terrace looking towards the sea, where we were served a wonderful breakfast in the morning and which we were able to take our time over and do it justice. There's a decent pool and an adjacent bar/restaurant. The gardens in front of the pool and terrace have a couple of gates onto the beach, which has to be one of the best on the island, a small, pretty bay with fishing boats, a few beachside/on beach restaurants and small hotels/villas behind palm trees. Waves were too strong to swim in but the hotel had a rack of body boards and we spent a happy hour with a couple of these. We chose to eat out, one of the beach restaurants (Cocktails), food was excellent but we've no doubt from the breakfast that any meal in the hotel would be excellent. Staff were fantastic, attentive without being obtrusive. A real highlight of our holiday.

One of the loveliest hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are lovely and the communal areas are beautifully kept. The staff are attentive without being overbearing and the breakfasts are incredible with plenty of choice. It is on the beachfront and the beach is just perfect, very quiet with a few fish restaurants dotted along. Would 100% recommend this hotel.
