Our stay was very disappointing, the room was very dirty with cobwebs and grubby surfaces. The bathroom was a disgrace with old toothpaste stains on the toothpaste holder and a general lack of cleaning. We had dinner at the property and whilst my wife enjoyed her sea bass risotto my gammon steak was extremely salty. Towards the end of the dinner rain started to come in through the roof, meaning we had to cut short our dinner. The comment that “it’s an old property what do you expect” was just not appropriate. Breakfast is placed in the room the day before it’s needed and just was not fresh. No breakfast was available in the dining room which was very strange. A cooked breakfast would have been good, but the option to have a fresh continental breakfast in the dining room would have been much better. Overall a very disappointing stay.

My wife and i recently ate and had drinks at The Devonshire Arms in Hartington, we had several meals during our weeks stay in the village, this is a country pub in a very pretty village with a lovely feel. The food we had was very good quality and the staff were friendly and approachable , we found Becky and Keiran excellent in their knowledge of the food and drinks available. I had on two occasions the best Gammon ever, as i didn't want chips , was offered saute' potatoes instead, which for me was just the ticket. and on the Sunday i had the Beef roast, with all the trimmings which again was lovely. My wife had Scampi, Frittata and a curry , which were all excellent. Many thanks to every body at 'The Devonshire Arms', and we look forward to returning to this excellent pub in the near future. We had a lovely family meal and was made most welcome. I had booked on line but for some reason it had not worked but we popped in the day before to make sure all was ok and luckily they could still fit us in for our meal. The food was really homely and the steak pie was soooooo nice. The staff was friendly, great service, lovely food, everything you need after a lovely walk.

Stayed here on a snowy December evening with friends. We had a lovely 2 course meal which was served to perfection. Best cooked gammon I've had for a good while But the accommodation was even better , they've done wonders with the Double Ensuite bedrooms. Very classy decor throughout and very comfy beds. Coffee machines in the room, extra seating and enough pillows to sink a ship. Thank you for a great stay.

We visited the restaurant and enjoyed the Sunday lunch. There was plenty of meat and a lovely selection of vegetables. All served piping hot. The puds were delicious especially the sticky toffee.the service was friendly and prompt. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Stunning location. The surrounding countryside is beautiful as is Hartington Village itself. The Devonshire Arms is the jewel in its crown. Excellent sized bedroom tastefully decorated. All mod cons TV, Fan , Armchair Tea/ coffee/Hot chocolate and posh biscuits.Comfortable bed and lovely plump pillows. Plenty of storage and spotlessly clean. Loads of fresh thick soft towels in the bathroom.Big walk in shower and endless hot water.Spotlessly clean. Friendly staff who remembered me from a previous visit a few months before which made me feel very important indeed. The food on the night was excellent although recommend you book as it was very busy. Worth it though.Considering it was so busy food arrived quickly and was piping hot and very tasty as well as very filling and reasonably priced. Plenty of on street parking so not sure what previous reviews moaning about. We arrived at a busy time in the village and found a space immediately. Some people don’t want to walk 50 yards! Bonus was it was all free. Can’t recommend enough. Ignor negative reviews some people are just so unfairly negative. Second visit and will definitely be going back.

We were lucky to get a table at this popular pub and I can understand why it gets busy. The pub is a really nice traditional style country pub with a nice roaring fire. The owners were very nice people and really helpful and friendly. There's a super selection of ales, a couple from the Sharp's brewery and and one from Black Sheep and there's also some really nice quality soft drinks - Luscombe's drinks are my all time favourite. My husband ordered the home-made steak and ale pie from the specials menu with buttery mash and peas - it came with a nice amount of gravy too which you poured on from a small jug. He thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the veggie burger and swapped out the chips for a salad - great to have the option to do that (you can also not have the bun). For dessert we shared a home-made rhubarb and apple crumble with custard - it was very delicious with the crumble being very buttery and oaty. Overall I would recommend this pub for either a drink or eating or both - it's not over priced like a lot of places and felt that the food, pricing and service were all very good.

A lovely pub in a very picturesque village, we were really impressed! Food was great and the beer and wine selection very good indeed! The menu is varied with something for everyone, my husband had a chicken burger which looked incredible!! Had a lovely welcome from the owner too. Would definitely recommend.
