OYO The Board Inn

We stopped at this pub on a walking holiday for one night (27-28 March 2025). Having walked 12 miles that day, we looked forward to a cosy room and a good pub dinner. However, the place was a tip when we arrived, the bar and restaurant were in complete disarray, and there was no staff to tell us what was happening. We found a piece of paper and a key with our names on a table and presumed they were expecting us. The room was kind of ready, no chair or kettle, but the beds appeared to be made. One duvet was marked, the lights over the wash basin in the room were not working, and the bin in the toilet was caked in vomit (see photos), but the bathroom appeared to be clean otherwise. We had no transport or energy to look for another hotel or B&B. Besides, Hawes is quite a small place. Eventually, a handyman informed us that he was supposed to have the place ready by the next day (which would be short of a miracle, see photos). He organised a kettle for our room and changed the bathroom bin. We were told we would have breakfast in the hotel next door, as this and the two properties on either side were all managed by OYO. I have been trying to get OYO to address the issues we had since I returned from that holiday, giving a full account of what we found and providing the photos, but they don't want to know. Customer Support is a farce; they just string you along and seem to have no power to make a decision. Stay away from OYO hotels!

Used to be a great pub under the previous landlady — always clean, welcoming, and the beer was spot on. Sadly, it’s gone downhill since the change. Dirty glasses, cloudy pints, and the place just doesn’t feel clean anymore. Real shame to see such a good pub lose its standards.

Please be careful when booking this hotel as one or two websites are advertising this as The BOARD INN WHITBY with a Whitby map. You are not booking Whitby but Hawes 80 Miles from Whitby. The owners of the Board Whitby has advised the Board Inn Hawes and ******* of mistake which is causing both my staff and customers a lot of stress and grief L Fagan Board Inn Whitby

Excellent service from the lovely Julia with a well kept pint as usual. Good beer and very comfortable bed. Room well stocked with tea and coffee etc. Chef Ben ensured I was very well fed. Cannot wait to return to celebrate New Year. Thank you for always looking after me when I visit.

Grand beer (I had Old Peculiar, there were lots of choices). Honest and simple food, very tasty. I'd recommend the sticky toffee pudding after a long day out. Very friendly and welcoming, I really couldn't fault it. I stayed at the Cockett's Hotel next door, run by the same people and also really good.

Brilliant pub the bar lady remy i think it was, was lovely and welcoming. We got the steak pie and it was delicious we really enjoyed it, the young waitress was very polite and happy to help at all times! Would 100% recommend this place. If we visit hawes again will definitely come back.
