The entrance of the hotel is not very noticeable and the reception is the same as the pub cashier.

Had a last minute getaway with the hubby and staff were great, a little confusion as to which room to put us in but the room was clean and modern. Showers not very powerful but my main issue with the room was body wash and shampoo had not been filled, a good job we brought our own. We chose to eat here too and the food was delicious and loads of it which made the price perfect couldn’t complain about any of that. The selection of drinks was good just a little shame the lights weren’t on, on the fridges and they weren’t that cold. We chose to go for a walk on one of the nice walks nearby. The location is great and perfect for walkers and cyclists. Overall very happy with the place and not a million miles away.

Booked the family room for 1 night, excellent reception service from the staff, room and beds were airy and comfortable, bathroom fabulous. The landlords are doing a fab job of bringing this very historic and old pub back to life with live bands, tables with plenty of board games to play and a great atmosphere. Well worth a stay, unfortunately no breakfast available when we stayed but they will be in the near future.

The George Hotel is a lovely place to stay. Rooms were clean, with all you need. Perfect location for walking, or exploring the area. It is in the heart of the pretty village of Hayfield. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I will book again when in the area

Be very aware of the car park information boards at this pub. We stopped there for a drink and did exactly as it said on the board. The paybyphone site has been hacked and trying to download the app or phone is also suspicious. Yesterday I had a charge of £59.99 charged to my account which turned out to be a fictitious company, nothing to do with paying the car park fee. Thankfully my bank stopped the payment but I still had to get the hassle of a new card.

Memories of a pleasant visit were totally destroyed when I received a spurious parking fine in the post 2 weeks later. Photos were taken of my car and allegations were made about invisible parking signs. There was a big, bold sign granting free parking to Customers - as you'd expect at a pub. Are Marston's going to engage the police to prosecute these scammers? How can I safely visit a Marston's pub again if they allow rogue landlords to get away with this. This is reputational damage of the highest order.

Under new management and is wonderful! Friendly atmosphere and brilliant beer. Kids loved it and we got out some board games. As a local we are over the moon this beautiful pub (and b&b) is now under management of brilliant people. There are some fab nights planned, it's going to be a great hub of entertainment.

I have received a parking fine of £60 following an 18 minute stay in the George car park on 24th October. The entrance to the car park has a large brightly coloured sign stating that parking is free to customers. This is totally misleading as it diverts one from the other signs around which require drivers to register their car numbers with a staff member in the building. We bought drinks while we were there. There was no request from staff for my car number nor were there any obvious notices in the building regarding this. I see from other reviews that I am one of many who have had this experience. We visited to see whether we might wish to stay at the George later this year. No thank you.

The hotel operates a smart (and shady) scheme where, they say there are 14 signs around the pub alerting you that you need to input your car registration, in order to qualify for the free parking. When you come from the entrance at the back, and the pub is messy after a long day, you can easily miss the signs. The bartender doesn't say anything about it. This is how I was hit with a parking fine. Furthermore, the hotel claims that the parking is owned by another company, but that company is a private company that operates with the hotel. All of it feels like one big scheme designed to squeeze charges off the pub visitors that overlook the mentioned signs. Furthermore, the hotel refuses to help, e.g they have ignored my email requesting their acknowledgment that I had visited their place (and bought drinks at the bar) so that I can appeal. I would warn everyone against visiting the pub, contributing money to shady practices. A charge of £170 via debt collectors, for a visit of 36 minutes and £15 worth of drinks purchased, whilst the hotel refuses to cooperate and help their customer. If the parking company was really a different company, the hotel would not have any problems helping out. The fact they ignore emails, or just fob you off is a warning. An official complaint will be made, and all evidence against the hotel and the parking company was logged. Shady practices like this should be brought to light, and I am hoping my review helps other customers avoid this establishment.
