Choose your meal very carefully ! Called for lunch but steak meal very disaopointing- dry and tough! Did comment to server but still charged full price. Not the response to encourage a return visit! Spoilt the day after a lovely walk at Talkin Tarn!

We had three nights here and couldn't have been made more welcome. The hotel is an undiscovered charm and a breath of fresh air nowadays. No loud music, no modern updates and thankfully no dogs inside. The food throughout the day was excellent but the very best part were the people who ran the place and the location. We will be definitely returning.

Comfortable accommodation with good food in a lovely rural setting. We only stayed one night - room was basic but clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant area - varied menu and food was well prepared, tasty and good value. I would rate it as much better than average 'pub fare'. Breakfast in the morning was good. Staff throughout were attentive and friendly. Overall, very good value and something of a find.

Went for a meal booked a table for 7.45 ( was offered 8pm) arrived got a few drinks at the bar sat down given menus read them pick the food waiter arrived to take our order at 7.59 for us to be told no starter cause the kitchen closed at 8 I was a little shocked he then went on to say you can have a starter but it will come with your main so at 8.10 mains arrived then starter a few minutes later the price things are now a days would it of been that bad for the kitchen staff just to of waited a few minute till we had eaten out starter the delivered our mains (the kitchen staff were still there at 9 when we left) felt very rushed and unwelcome

Not dined here for a while but glad to see the food is still excellent. All the people in the group enjoyed their choices mine being a particular fine Cumberland sausage with excellent veg and real chips. Not forgetting a decent pint of Timmy Taylors!

What a lovely place this is. I have just returned from a Golfing break with 7 friends and everything was faultless. Anne is a lovely pleasant host who ensures everything runs shipshape. The breakfast is first class and passed my sausage test with flying colours (obviously sourced from a local butcher) I can definitely recommend The Blacksmiths Arms and I plan to return next year.

My husband and I stayed for four nights in this lovely traditional British pub. From start to finish of our break we were welcomed into the premises by the lovely owners, staff and locals. We were very comfortable in room three which was very clean, warm and cosy. The food was excellent and we ate there all four nights particularly enjoying the sticky toffee pudding and custard. It proved an excellent location to visit Hadrians wall, in particular the Roman Army Museum which was fascinating, Gretna Green and The Lakes. We also found a dark night location close by where you could access Hadrians wall very easily. We would definitely make a return visit to this charming and very welcoming venue. The Smiths. XX

We found this jem of a hotel/restaurant a few years ago and have returned several times. The welcome is so friendly and you feel at home straight away. The rooms are lovely and well equipped with great beds. Breakfast is home cooked with local produce and the resurant offer great dishes, tasty and really good to eat. It might take a little searching for being in a small village but so worth it.
