We stayed for a weekend in October, booking direct and stayed in the four poster bed with views overlooking the valley (Principle room) which was just stunning. The furnishings and decor were really lovely, even if there were some issues - mould over the window and stonework and windows which hadn't been renovated to a reasonable standard. Some lovely touchs in the room nevertheless. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was somewhat deserted so the bar seemed like a cosier option. One member of staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, a really nice chap. The other made us feel awkward by complaining about his girlfriend complaining which wasn't really appropriate conversation to two guests who have arrived for a weekend's stay. The kitchen clearly has some talent but the prices were too high in comparison to other places of decent quality. Stand out dish was a pork belly dish starter, £25 for a burger didn't reflect what we had - the portobello burger was just disappointing. Breakfast meanwhile was excellent. I had a slight with an underdone (to my taste) poached egg and it was dealt with efficiently and I got a replacement very quickly. The breakfast/restaurant room is lovely. In the evening we did get some noise from the bar as we were right overhead - one of the staff was talking and laughing very loudly and perhaps didn't realise. Not a huge deal but worth mentioning. I'd also suggest that if Simonstone Hall is aiming to be a boutique country house hotel of standards, the staff need to be trained in being more discreet and not spend an evening socialising with guests. We booked the hot tub and I phoned down to reception to ask if there were any slippers and got no response, so we went down to reception to ask. The initial response the woman on reception was "no they're not in their usual space", then "You can just walk out there and then dry off your feet". She was really unhelpful, curt and gave us the impression that our presence was an irritation. She then barked at us that she will go and check if it's ready "as you're here early". We were not early, we'd arrived at the time booked. So we waited in the chilly reception area whilst staff moved around outside doing what they could have been doing in the hours before our alloted time. The hot-tub once we got in there was a lovely experience, the tub was a little greasy from other people I guess but I'm not too worried about that and we were allowed to stay in the tub a little longer than our allocated time. After about 10 minutes of us being in there the woman from reception dropped off the slippers for us, after that she also dropped off a key saying she was leaving for the day. She actually gave us someone else's key and learnt that someone else had to be let into their room by housekeeping. You cannot have someone on reception who manages to be officious but not efficient. That was a really bad experience and after reading the review responses by the owner, we will not b

Had a lovely Sunday lunch today. It's such a shame the hotel is looking a tad neglected in places inside and around the gardens. I do hope the spring steps in and revitalizes the hotels potential. The pigs and peacocks are wonderful to see and visit also.

My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed two one-night stays recently. The reception, evening meal and breakfasts were outstanding. The service was excellent and we look forward to visiting again. We highly recommend anyone wanting a first-rate experience visit Simonstone Hall.

Excellent February deal for two nights BnB, Afternoon Tea on arrival and a 3 course dinner for two included. The food is quite exceptional and beautifully presented. It’s obvious that the team really care about Simonstone Hall and combine friendliness and professionalism on every level. Great location, real history and character, comfy beds and luxurious furnishings. This was our second visit and we’ll have no hesitation in returning.

I wanted to book an afternoon tea at Simonstone Hall. I rang and left a message but no one rang back so I popped in next day. The owner was in the bar. He isn't very friendly and welcoming but his staff are lovely. The lady who answered the phone the day after was so friendly and helpful, the gentleman who served us afternoon tea was lovely and the lady on the bar afterwards was also lovely. The afternoon tea was fabulous and the hotel and views are beautiful.

We were kindly gifted this one night stop by our Daughter. We know Hawes quite well but had never been to this hotel before. The location is stunning and being a Monday night in early February, I think we were the only people staying overnight. We were taken to an upgraded room (No 9) which more than met our expectations. Spacious , clean with a view to die for. Iron and ironing board , robes , cafetière , ground coffee and even a vinyl record player with vinyl records! As the Hotel was quiet, we were offered our 3 course evening meal in a table right next to a roaring fire in the Bar. A complimentary bottle of wine was offered and all 3 courses of food were top quality meals. At breakfast we again were given a table in prime position and served by a genuinely friendly member of staff. The weather was poor so we didn't go into the grounds but they looked impressive as did all the public areas of the Hotel. They also had a couple of EV chargers which could be useful. I was a little surprised that there was a £10.50 service charge added yo what was a fully paid for stay but as we noted that all service charge is shared between staff and we had received top quality service then we didn't query it. Very enjoyable stay and fully recommended.

Thought we would give it one last go but nothings changed unfortunately! Place still as tired as the managers rude comments and overpriced for what my partner called cafe grub! room was cold and again no hot water and the same excuse as when we last went" problem with the boiler" how coincidental!!!

We were fortunate enough to spend the weekend at this beautiful old property with a large group of friends to celebrate a 60th birthday. The views from Simonstone Hall are the best in the Dale and on a clear crisp winter day you would not wish to be anywhere else, it’s breathtaking. I couldn’t wait to open my heavy curtains on a morning to see the view through old mullion stone windows, and watch the peacocks strutting around. The hall takes you back in time and it’s been decorated in rich deep colors that envelope you when it’s cold outside. The fire in the well appointed bar was blazing and offered a warm welcome when returning from our winter walk. The rooms offer the same, I did take a look at most of them, decorated in the same old opulent style most with large tubs for soaking after a long walk. Some of the bathrooms do require a little upgrade, mine was one of them and maintenance in places is evident but it was overlooked because I was so comfortable and I know Jake is constantly working on improving the property. The food provided by John the chef was amazing and we ate all our meals at the hotel. Excellent quality, local and freshly prepared. Special thanks to Jo and Jake who made sure everyone and everything ran smoothly, to the staff in general who were helpful, pleasant and always at hand. A fantastic weekend with amazing memories. Thank you team Simonstone x
