Visited Hurstpierpoint to attend a friend’s birthday party and stayed at the Horse. The room was lovely and clean, and warm (it was a cold evening). There was a great hot shower available and the bed was comfy. All of the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had an amazing cooked breakfast and would definitely recommend this as a place to stay.

Room 3 as others have said is noisy (and colleagues in other rooms also said the same) due to be above the main bar and at the front of the building so gets all of the road noise. There is no discernible noise insulation. Windows don't seal well so there is no escaping the noise of hot-hatches with loud exhausts going past at all hours. The noise from the bar below is substantial whether it be music or voices. Probably would be okay for the hearing impaired. There is a hand shower in the bath tub - it is not a shower in the normal sense, and only those under 5 feet tall would be able to use it as anything other than a hand shower. I didn't know you could get mattresses so thin. Probably okay for small or short people. Breakfast starts at 8.30 so is unsuitable for most business users starting their day earlier. And there is no flexibility. This is a case of the kitchen staff driving when they want to work and not of meeting customer expectations. The alternative that was offered was a cheese sandwich made the night before and left outside the bedroom door (to sweat a little) with a bottle of water! Probably more suited to non-business users who have flexibility in their day (or avid fans of sweaty cheese sandwiches). Parking is limited to the roadside or a couple or so spaces that are at the side of the pub. More suited to non-drivers (i.e. take a taxi).

We eat out every Sunday. We’ve also eaten here a few times in the evenings. However today (Mother’s Day) we went for a Sunday roast and honestly it was the best one I’ve ever had out. The potatoes were still crispy which is a huge rarity for a pub roast, the meat couldn’t have been better cooked or had more flavour and the creamy leeks were gorgeous. Their homemade desserts are something special and they have the most flavourful ice cream. We’re looking forward to going back already. Well done chef Pete and the team

Noisy room (room 3). We were booked in for an evening meal and overnight stay for a change of scenery. Average meal and service but we hardly got any sleep due to the pub owners/staff sleeping in the room above and being awake most of the night once the pub closed 11/12pm. The building is very old and you can hear people walking around upstairs (every footstep) so not much sleep was had unfortunately. We were also told that breakfast wasn’t served until 9am so we couldn’t have it at 8am but then got up to see other guests eating their breakfast at 830am and the blackboard outside stating it was served from 8am. We left straight away as we had hardly slept. Also we were charged twice for the room by accident and only found out as we double checked our bank statement. Hopefully the overpayment will be returned shortly,

Lovely welcome from a male member of staff and the landlord. Had a really good nights sleep in the comfy bed - top floor room. Superb freshly cooked breakfast and very friendly chef. Well done to you all. Can really recommend the Thai Heritage Massage, just along the road. Very reasonable price and very experianced staff. We had a couples massage and we would definately go back there.

Just returned from a lovely Autumn stay at the Horse Inn Hurst, we were attending a jewellery making course close by and had the best weekend. We stayed in the Owlery, stunning luxury bedroom and bathroom, comfiest bed and walk-in monsoon shower. Had delicious tapas and fish and chips for dinner and a glorious full english breakfast Sunday. All the staff were professional, kind, warm and welcoming. Looking forward to staying again, would highly recommend for a romantic weekend in the south downs!

A fabulous overnight stay, with a generous warm welcome from the lovely staff, comfortable room and fantastic breakfast. The pub is very attractive and the town has a nice range of interesting shops. Perfect!

We ended up not actually staying here as an emergency arose and we had to drive home. However, can say room looked pleasant but was VERY small and overlooked the road so would have been noisy. We had dinner but food not good. Staff member spoken to was nice guy.
