Old Drift Lodge

I cannot say enough good about Old Drift Lodge! It was a perfect stay. We felt like family. Every staff member was so kind and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay special. I didn’t realize when I booked the stay that we actually were staying inside a national park with the animals literally outside your door. There is no need to book any outside excursions as the Old Drift has everything for you!! The guided tour of Victoria Falls and breakfast at Lookout Point was fabulous. Every day came with new adventures and new animals to experience. Our game guide, Vusa, was so knowledgeable and truly loves the animals and what he does. He is a pro and one of the very best in Zimbabwe! We loved every second with him!! The game drives far exceeded my expectations. We saw so many animals: Lion pride (momma, dad, three cubs and two female daughters), giraffes, elephants (in the camp and swimming almost everyday), hippos (we could hear them in the mornings), zebra, impala, jackal, mongoose, African buffalo, crocodile, white monkeys, baboons, hyena, bushbuck, crocodile, dung beetles, and a slew of birds. Having the game drives at sunrise and right before sunset was ideal! The lighting for photos and temperature was perfect. They always had drinks for us to enjoy. The food was top notch! The chef really puts his heart into the menu. Everything I ate was delicious! I got to try foods I’d never had before like Warthog and Crocodile, and guess what? They were great! Service all around was excellent! The lodge itself was beautifully decorated and very clean. The tent/room was so nice. It was refreshing to swim in the pool in the afternoon or take an outdoor shower and you just can’t beat the view of the Zambezi river!! If you have the chance to go to this area of the world, do yourself a favor and stay at Old Drift Lodge. You will not regret it!! I hope someday I can return. Siyabonga Old Drift Lodge!!

I enthusiastically endorse every other positive review of Old Drift Lodge. Our stay at Old Drift far exceeded our expectations. Being transported across the Zambezi river to the camp by boat was a wonderful way to start our visit. And we couldn’t have felt more welcomed upon our arrival. Everyone was so accommodating and everything was perfect. Our guide, Life, is mind-blowingly knowledgeable about everything in the area and is an excellent teacher. He is also a lot of fun. Our morning and afternoon excursions were all fantastic. Our tent was magnificent. Thank you for helping us to have the trip of a lifetime, and to gain a deeper respect and appreciation of African wildlife. We are spreading the word to our friends and family about Old Drift Lodge!

Our suite was rustic with all the amenities we needed, including air conditioning. We loved the deck located yards from the Zambezi, with a dipping pool, awesome breezes and views. Isolated from neighboring suites it was quiet and private. The central lodge was comfortable and inviting. Dining was on the deck, the food presentations beautiful as well as delicious. I can’t rave enough about the kind, professional and friendly staff. We were always greeted with damp, cool towels when we returned from an excursion. All the ranger guides were knowledgeable and proud to show their beautiful country and wildlife. We saw a family of hippos eating in the river, impalas, and more elephants than I could count. You will not be disappointed if you choose this lodge.

Our time at The Old Drift Lodge could not have been more memorable! The lodge and staff were amazing and incredibly friendly. We were in awe of the number of elephants and our time witnessing them up close in the wild, including having them visiting in the camp! Incredible!!! In addition, the staff were awesome, made us feel so special and welcome!! The lodge is incredible, luxury tented rooms on the Zambezi River in the middle of the national park. Elephants coming to drink at the river and doing so right outside side our room! Amazing!

A BITTER SWEET RTURN VISIT THIS TIME, NOT A HOLIDAY. MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY RECENTLY AND THE GM’S - HIMAL AND IRENE NATHOO, ASKED ME TO COME BACK TO ODL AS MY HUSBAND WAS STILL THERE IN SPIRIT. I DID THIS AND IT WAS BOTH DIFFICULT, SAD AND HEALING. I HAD THE SAME ROOM AS LAST YEAR, AND IT WAS NICE TO KNOW THAT WHAT I WAS SEEING ALL AROUND ME AND OUTSIDE WAS WHAT MY HUSBAND HAD ALSO SEEN ONLY 10 MONTHS PREVIOUSLY. THERE WERE MANY ELEPHANTS IN CAMP THIS TIME, WHICH WE DID NOT HAVE LAST YEAR. SUCH BEAUTIFUL MAJESTIC ANIMALS AND SEEING THE MANY BABIES AND YOUNG WAS AN EXPERIENCE NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN. I WAS LUCKY (BUT ODL WERE UNLUCKY!) ENOUGH TO HAVE 2 LARGE ELEPHANTS DRINK AND PLAY WITH THE WATER FROM MY PRIVATE POOL THE MORNING I LEFT. I HAD BEEN ASKING AND ASKING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN - AND IT DID. IT SEEMS NOTHING IS BEYOND THE REALMS OF POSSIBILITY FOR THE ODL MANAGEMENT AND STAFF. AS PER LAST YEAR THE MEALS WERE OUTSTANDING, THE GAME DRIVES SPECTACULAR. SEEING THE MANY FRIENDS WE MADE TOGETHER LAST YEAR, AND THEIR ALL ENCOMPASSING LOVE SHOWN TOWARDS ME IN MY TIME OF GRIEF WAS SOMETHING THAT WENT WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT. THESE PEOPLE REALLY KNOW HOW TO TREAT GUESTS AND I WILL HOPEFULLY BE BACK AGAIN ONE DAY. What a once in a lifetime experience Old Drift Lodge created for us during our stay! Their service and hospitality exceeded any expectation we could've set. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, we did not need to think about a single thing. Employees took care of every detail in the most relaxing and comforting way. Staff worked together to ensure we got the most out of our experience, which included brining us to our room by boat to see several herds of elephants enjoying our lodge's comfort because they had overhead how badly we were hoping for this to happen. All inclusive is an understatement with how much you get included with your stay. Every experience, meal, and interaction is handled with the utmost care and concern. We genuinely miss the people of Old Drift Lodge. WE CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN ONE DAY SOON!
