"The views are absolutely stunning, and the rooms are very spacious. Although it's a bit of a distance from Takayama Station, there's a convenient free hotel shuttle bus operating every hour. Both the public baths on the 5th and 7th floors feature outdoor hot spring baths (rotenburo), and the male/female facilities switch daily. Additionally, every room is equipped with its own bathtub. Breakfast, served on the second floor, offers a wide variety of dishes. Highlights include the delicious Japanese breads, along with local specialties such as Hoba Miso, Hida Milk, and puddings. The hotel is also officially designated as a 5-star accommodation by the Japan Tourism Agency."

"The hotel is right next to the JR station, they also have a private parking, it is first come first service basis. There is also a small shop at the lobby area selling local products. Staffs were very welcoming. The public bath was spacious, the only down side was, there were A LOT of foreigners. Most of them has NO MANNERS in the public bath area. Some didn't take shower before going in the bath, some talking really loudly in their language, well, we could hear them clearly still; some soak their towels and long hair in the water. I really couldn't stand, I couldn't enjoy the bath at all. If you were looking for a calm retreat, this is not the place. We changed to another hotel the next day. I understand Japanese doesn't like confrontation, however, they have to do something to make sure, other guests could also enjoy their stay, and public bathing is so much about Japanese culture too, they shall educate people to respect their culture.
Back to the hotel facility, room was very spacious and clean. The view was nice too from the top floor foot bath area. Breakfast was great too, they provide both western and Japanese options, it was tasty."

"It was my child's first trip to Japan, and I wanted him to experience a traditional tatami room. I absolutely recommend this hotel in Takayama. We booked a tatami room, which was wonderfully spacious and offered incredible views. The two onsen baths at the hotel were also fantastic and spotlessly clean."

"The hotel has nice rooms with fascinating view on the town. Rooms are clean and pretty big with needed amenities. The hotel has really nice onsen with water from the local hot spring, sauna and a nice spot for town and neighborhood observing. The hotel is pretty near the railway and bus stations, moreover it’s about 10 minutes walk for main historic part of Takayama.

"The hotel is decent. It features private onsen baths (with a 30-minute limit, operating on an honor system as there's no staff supervision) and public hot springs. "The hotel is incredibly close to the station, literally a minute or two on foot. The central shopping district is also a convenient 10-minute walk away. Check-in was electronic and very smooth. Despite being right by the train tracks, it was surprisingly quiet. I appreciated the hotel's custom-made maps and local attraction guides, which were very thoughtful and interesting. One minor drawback: there's no bottled water in the room; guests need to get their own water. They do have a public bath facility, perfect for a relaxing soak. Housekeeping was prompt and kept the room spotless."

"Brand new hotel with small but comfortable and clean rooms.
It's a great base to explore the Gifu area. There is parking space available for extra charge.
The breakfast is good but quite repetitive if you stay for several nights. The staff at breakfast lacks politeness and it's not very efficient. There is often food missing in the buffet.
The hotel has a private Onsen for guests which is very good and convenient. The Onsen facilities are very clean.

"Extremely satisfied! When traveling, value for money is paramount, and this hotel truly delivers. It's not only conveniently located but also warm and comfortable, especially with the cooking facilities. Though we didn't use the washing machine, its presence was a comforting touch.
1. The bus stop is right downstairs, making for a smooth, unhurried 5-minute walk to catch your bus.
2. Despite being next to the train tracks, the soundproofing is excellent.
3. The drying rack on the balcony was incredibly useful; our clothes dried faster here than at any other hotel during our trip.
4. The kitchen is fully equipped, which is absolutely perfect for travelers.
5. Both Jinya and the market are just a pleasant 10-minute walk away.
6. I recommend requesting a room on the 3rd floor or higher for unobstructed views from the double rooms.
7. Just a 5-minute downhill walk to the left of the hotel brings you to a Boss Supermarket, stocked with all sorts of groceries. The Hida beef, sushi, and sashimi, in particular, were incredibly affordable!
8. The Miyagawa Morning Market, however, was a major disappointment – as is often the case with overly touristy spots, it lacked genuine appeal!"

"The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, just a five-minute walk to the right after exiting the JR and Nohi Bus stations. Right next door is Ajikura Tengoku, a popular Hida beef restaurant. My tip would be to head there early to grab a queue number, then you can comfortably wait back at the hotel. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are a decent size, and there's even a hot spring bath on the top floor! The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place!"

JJohnathan49We tried to book this lesser known hotel in the area and guess what, we were glad we did got the opportunity to stay in this lovely hotel. The staff was kind and sincere even though they tried their best to speak converse with us in english. The room we stayed in was those like ryokan kind with a toilet in it. Shower area are shared among other guests which is linked to a shared indoor and outdoor onsen areas as well. They have a private onsen as well which you do not need to book, just need to lock the door outside to inform people that you're using it.
The best part of this experience is that we opted for dinner and breakfast and we were just blown away especially the dinner course menu. They provided like 10 different type of dishes for you to taste which includes the iconic hida beef as well!
Everything for one night is so affordable around SGD $200+ which is definitely worth it!

The room was very clean, and the private baths were spacious enough for two adults and two children. I was worried that July would be too hot to soak in the hot springs, but perhaps because it's in the mountains, the weather was pleasant and the evenings were cool, making the hot springs very enjoyable. ❤️ There are also two private baths on site, no reservations required, first come, first served, and the scenery is beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here. 👍🏻

GGuest UserStayed there with as a family of 3. While I really wanted to like the ryokan due to the warm service and great feedback from friends, my own experience was a bit disappointing. We have stayed in many traditional ryokans prior to this and were familiar with the setup. We are appreciative with the warm service and sincere touches; like candies at check in, but the ryokan itself is really quite old and in need of a refresh.
Our room is tucked away in a corner and required us to go down a small flight of stairs to reach. I am not sure if the location meant that is a bit colder than the rest of the rooms but we really did feel cold and the heating was inadequate. The in built heater would also stop and beep in the middle of the night, which led 2 of us falling sick at the start of the trip. We requested for a additional small heater which helped a bit. Second night, our 9yo son also got many mysterious bites all over his leg. He claimed to have seen a bug crawl under the tatami mat but we were not certain and therefore did not feedback to the ryokan as we only had one more remaining night to go. We had only stayed 1 night in nagoya's marriott associa hotel prior to our ryokan visit, and his skin improved after we left Takayama, leading us to think that it might have been the stay there.

JJolin007An absolutely fantastic hotel with magnificent scenery and surroundings. It even has foot bath pools right at the entrance. Visiting during the off-season, the price was incredibly reasonable. The hot spring baths within the hotel require no extra charge. There are both outdoor and indoor pools, including options for shared and private hot springs. Any private bath with its light on is available for guests to use. However, please note that the private baths do not have shower facilities.
The hotel also organizes several complimentary activities, such as marshmallow roasting. Nestled in a forest, the views are simply breathtaking, no matter where you look.
At specific times, guests can enjoy complimentary ice cream, milk, yogurt, coffee, and afternoon tea. There's also a delicious free dinner offered at certain hours, though restaurant reservations are essential. The beautiful views from the restaurant windows make dining there an absolute delight.
The hotel offers bathrobes in a wide range of colors and patterns, allowing guests to choose according to their personal taste. While the selection for children's bathrobes is more limited (unlike other hotels that often only provide one generic style), the hotel is still very thoughtful and accommodating.

LLieu Munn LoongMy wife and I have had a 3-night stay at this Tabino Hotel Hida Takayama Room #149 from 5 to 8 October 2025.
The Hotel is a hotel with its own private onsen caters for its own hotel guests. However, we are not a fan of onsen, so we did not try it.
The 2-storey Hotel is located about 4km away from the Takayama Station, where the city centre is. However, the Hotel does provide free hourly shuttle services to and fro the Hotel and the Station (please check with the hotel directly for availability and the shuttle schedules). The Hotel is polite and helpful, and they are able to communicate in English.
The hotel room is the standard typical type whereby it is small but very clean. The bed and pillows are comfortable for our liking, and the bathroom - again the typical Japanese type - is clean and its has strong water pressure for a comfortable shower.
The Hotel also provides free drinks from 5pm to 7pm - and also free ramen or ice cream from 8pm to 10pm - daily to all guests, while stock lasts for the day. Additional, it has free parking for guests who drive, so we get to enjoy free parking for 3 days.
At SGD S$80 per night, we find it value for money, and we will choose to stay here if we travel Takayama again.

DDuboisTristanThis place was absolute amazing! By far our favorite place from our whole trip. The location was absolutely perfect for the Takyama festival. We were literally right there with shops and street vendors 50 yards away and the parades would have been right there as well if they weren't canceled due to rain. The rooms were humble and traditional and really added to the experience. The tea in the room was exceptionally good and the traditional Japanese breakfast they served was also delicious and fun to eat. We didn't even know they had a legitimate hot spring on site, but they did! They are Japanese style baths so be ready for that, but the water was therapeutic and so relaxing. I cant recommend this place enough and I would absolute make it a point to visit Takyama and stay here again for a few days on our next trip to Japan. They were such great kind hosts. And I cant believe the price, what an great value. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm not sure why the other bad reviews are here I read some of them and they sound like entitled stupid American tourists so ignore them and stay here.
