Avani Kalutara Resort

5* hotel booked to end our trip in style. Bar staff and cleaners were super happy, polite and love to great the guests in the hotel. Reception staff were generally unhelpful. I tried to book activities and excursions, but was initially told to go the hotel next door before being given a random book While trying to sort late check out one receptionist began serving another customer over my head. Late check out was eventually agreed to which was helpful but after being sat face to face in silence for minutes. Facilities are wonderful. Nice private beach, great pool area. Two bars and buffet style restaurant with ala carte option. Locals got charged significantly less for our event dinner. Some would say that's fair, others would disagree, but not being transparent probably suggests it was trying to be hidden. Service wasn't 5*. When we arrived our bedding was ripped and had a huge hole in it. Thankfully this was fixed, but I think atleast 2/3 people came to check before it was resolved.

Luxurious hotel with impeccable service. Comfortable rooms, and outstanding amenities. The staff is attentive, and the dining experience is superb. A truly five-star stay.

This was our last stop from our tour of Sri Lanka, admittedly we have now left part of our hearts in the beautiful island, thanks to the great people making us feel welcome with incredible smiles. This resort is possibly one of the best hospitality locations, the staff attention to detail and dedication to making the guests feel comfortable and relaxed is something that they truly need to be proud of. The guide of Christoph Dueker in setting very high standards is evident and very inspiring. I would love to mention all of the staff by name as all merit a mention, but this is an impossible task so here are some of the people that made our stay memorable and inspired us to return: Nimesh Thisera, Roshantha, Nimal and finally Dinesh who’s creations with towels and flowers is hard to replicate. Again a thank you to the restaurant serving team for their attentive service and hospitality. The swimming pool attendants for their patience and support. And lastly the reception team whose kindness cannot go unmentioned.

It sits right on the Kalutara peninsula, where the mighty river meets the vast ocean. It’s a jaw-dropping view—you get the calm lagoon on one side and the energetic sea on the other. This unique position creates an incredible, tranquil atmosphere. The whole resort felt so spacious and open. I loved the lovely architecture; it just felt light and airy everywhere you looked. We spent hours relaxing in the spacious garden, which is beautifully kept and full of quiet little spots. It gave the resort a wonderful, unhurried vibe. Service That Felt Like Family While the location is beautiful, the people are what made our stay truly shine. The entire team was so helpful and genuinely friendly. They didn't just do their jobs; they made us feel personally cared for. I absolutely have to mention a few staff members who were fantastic: Nimal from Housekeeping kept our room wonderfully fresh and immaculate every single day. Coming back to a perfect room was the best feeling! Piyathissa at the Front Office handled our bags with so much care. Starting and ending the trip without worrying about luggage made things so easy. Kanishka at the Front Office was so kind and efficient during check-in. He made us feel welcomed right away. Finally, the resort's operational quality is clearly driven by strong leadership. Jayantha, the Manager, was visible and actively engaged with guests, demonstrating a hands-on commitment to ensuring high service standards were met across all departments. Food: Quality Over Quantity We thoroughly enjoyed the food. It was genuinely tastier than I expected, with lovely fresh flavours. While the buffet had a more moderate collection of items, I actually preferred it—everything they offered was delicious and well-prepared. No overwhelming choices, just quality food that hit the spot every time. Finally Avani Kalutara is a resort that gets it right. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and run by people who genuinely care about your experience. If you’re planning a trip to Kalutara, book this place. We left feeling completely refreshed and already plotting our return
