We were lured here by the attractive photos. We were disappointed as soon as we arrived as the place is a bit run-down - starting from the dropped letters in the "Leo ard d' Ar ent" sign at the entrance and general need for a paint job. The reception hall was shut and we had to call repeatedly to get inside. The grounds still have some charm thanks to luscious vegetation but the resort as a whole has seen better times and the rooms are clean but dark and not particularly attractive. Overall, we found the facilities significantly overpriced for the type of accommodation and service. The location is very inconvenient to reach: it takes a full 45 minutes from Kandy on a road that gets increasingly rough as you approach, with the last few hundred meters being very steep and causing our skillfully-driven van to skid. Once you get there you thus have a sense of being trapped, as the way back to Kandy is long and stressful. This means that you are effectively forced to dine at the hotel, which, perhaps for this reason, offers a a mix of French and local dishes at 3 or 4 times the market price in similar destinations elsewhere. What really put us off is the proprietor, a fellow called Fabrice. He is a truly mean and vengeful person, whose watchful presence spoils the entire experience. He mistreats his Sri Lankan wife, referring to her basically as a servant, and bullied our cheerful driver, expressing contempt for all locals as inferiors. He charged 2500 rupees for accommodating our driver in a dingy room without a lock - something no other property in Sri Lanka had done before. Finally, when checkout time arrived, he demanded to apply a 3.5% surcharge for paying the bill with a credit card - while the booking confirmation stated credit cards are accepted without disclosing surcharges. As an alternative, he accepted to be paid in rupees with a lower surcharge but only after converting the quoted USD amount at an inflated exchange rate.

Le leopard d 'argent is a paradise for a birder. 53 species have been spotted within a day. The atmosphere is super tranquil and enjoyed the beauty of nature every minute. Fabris & Nisha gave us an excellent personalized service which made the stay much more memorable. Can’t forget the mouth-watering cuisine prepared by the chef too. It’s a perfect location to great rejuvenation. Onceagain thank you very much Fabris, Nisha and all the staff. We will definitely make another visit during the bird migratory season.

The location is surrounded by jungle and very calm environment. An excellent place for relax and enjoy nature with delicious French food. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Had a lovely stay. Thanks Fabrice and Nisha.

Le Leopard D'Argent is a really fantastic place. Located some 25-30 minutes from the Kandy center it is hidden in jungles but don't be afraid - the place is serene and safe. Fabrice, the owner of the place is running this small facility taking care of every single guest. We were celebrating the New Year and everything was fantastic - starting from the arrival (Google Maps provide directions quite accurately). We enjoyed a Sri Lankan show together with the French cuisine. Both were fabulous. Our room was clean with all the things you can think of. Good wifi connection was also a plus though mainly we were enjoying the rest not wasting our time for social networks )) Aside from the excellent cuisine you can have fun at a small pool or play bowls (or petanque) or mini-golf. But again, the secret of the place is the host. Fabrice and his family are one of these few caring people who feel their personal responsibility for every guest's comfort. All you need to do is to come there with an open heart. Honestly I believe these few 1-star reviews are coming from people who used to come as pure consumers, which can be ok when you come to a hotel like Hilton, etc. But Le Leopard D'Argent is a totally different story - coming there you more likely come to a friend's house. And you are supposed to respect the house rules and the host. We'll surely return.

When you get a bit tired of every TukTuk-driver, every hotel manager and even random people in the streets pushing you to see one more temple, take one more trip to a tea or garment factory etc - Le Leopard D'Argent is your sanctuary. I recommend booking at least 3 nights because from my own experience I can say that it takes some time to calm down and settle in - day 2 and 3 felt fundamentally different from day 1. Waking up to the sound of birds and the view of monkeys high up in the trees, munching on jackfruit and leaves, enjoying a fabulous rum mojito on the wooden terrace by the pool - when it all sinks in you will feel so blessed to be able to spend some time there. Staff are wonderful and if you DO feel like you want to explore, the owner has many great ideas what you could do in and around Kandy.

L’albergo è ubicato nella fitta foresta sopra Kandy. Un po’ scomodo ma molto tranquillo. Per un errore mio di valutazione ho preferito rinunciare alla prenotazione. Il signor Fabrice, proprietario dell’ hotel, e’ stato. Olio gentile e comprensivo ed ha annullato la prenotazione senza penali. Lo ringrazio molto. Comportamento molto professionale

L'hôtel n'est pas forcément facile à trouver avec un chemin un peu escarpé, mais avec un coup de fil tout s'éclaircit pour le chauffeur. Une fois sur place, un environnement exceptionnel, écarté de la ville, au milieu de la forêt. Une chambre familiale propre, grande avec une literie très confortable. Une belle piscine qui permet de profiter de l'environnement. A noter un terrain de boules et un min golf ! Des repas sur la terrasse au son du concert des oiseaux. Cuisine française ... cela fait du bien de manger pas épicé (et autre chose que du riz). Des tarifs plus élevés que dans les restaurants Sri Lankais, mais moins que les mêmes plats en France. Le personnel très agréable et serviable. Bref une super étape au milieu de notre circuit.
