Beautiful hotel just a short drive from Dublin. Grounds are fabulous. Lily Pond rooms have lovely views. Our room was OK, not quite the luxury we expected. Bathroom was stunning with a free standing bath. Village Thermal is lovely for relaxation although there is no lighting which meant by 5:30pm we couldn't see anything. This seems dangerous. The Mill is lovely for dinner - beef was very tender. Service excellent. Beautiful breakfast the next morning. Overall, it's a lovely spot for a weekend break.

Very nice spot in Kildare. Quite tranquil, relaxing and lovely staff in spacious rooms. My only critique is maybe have the main restaurant child free after 7.30pm? Wasn’t nice to listen to screaming toddlers running around whilst trying to eat my dinner for the price point it’s at.

Things we didn’t like: Checked in at 1:30pm with treatments booked for 2:30pm but couldn’t access our bedroom. We had to open our case to get our swim wear and carry it to spa outside reception. The spa thermal treatments are outside in cold and wet. On completing massages we were brought to the relaxation room for sorbet and teas which is lovely but the fire was out and the room was cold. In deciding to go to our room we had to put our clothes on to go to a separate building in the elements. After a spa treatment I would liked to stay warm and move in my robe to my room in comfort. This was not possible as you could not take the robe from the spa and you had to walk to another building in the cold. We could not take a shower as the bathroom would have flooded. We had to put towels down. This is poor and extremely dangerous. On check out staff suggested this was a drains issue - no it is a design issue. The hotel is a cute concept but practically it didn’t work for us, it is too disjoint and doesn’t put guest needs first. It is style over substance. We liked: Our massage treatments were lovely. The food was excellent. The hotel buildings look cute possibly a nice wedding venue in summer. But not spa break in winter.

I cannot recommend the Cliff at Lyon’s more. From start to finish our stay was fabulous. The staff are amazing, the room was spacious and luxurious. The food is delicious, the spa is peaceful and the surroundings are gorgeous. We had a relaxing night away that felt like longer.

My wife and I took afternoon tea in the Cliff on Saturday last as a treat to ourselves. The price for 2 was €120. For that price I was expecting a similar experience to our previous visits to the Westbury or The Shelbourne (both 5* settings too). Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. The seats in the Mill were beside the fire which was perfect. This unfortunately was the high point. We were presented with our menus which looked very inviting. I was looking forward to trying the Orange tart and the mint macaron, but alas they did not materialize . I understand that items may not be available from time to time but you are normally advised of this at the start. Then the tea arrived out in a “staff canteen” Stainless steel tea pot to be poured into bargain basement tea cups. The sandwiches/rolls were acceptable but the fruit scones were almost all fruit and no scone. A request for a refill of the jam pot was met with two small pots of jam rather than a refill (not a big deal but attention to detail). The staff were young and very polite, however, the fire received more attention than the customers when we were there. If you are paying 5* prices, you are entitled to expect 5* service, setting and food. The Cliff at Lyon’s have failed to deliver this I’m afraid. This is a huge pity as it has put me off dining there again.

Stunning hotel, full of charm and character. Very cosy for Winter time with fire places and toasty rooms. It was snowing while we were there so the whole place looked like a winter wonderland. Food was excellent with a gorgeous view of the water feature at the Mill restaurant. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating particularly a young French man who was our lovely waiter in the restaurant. The little coffee shop and the breakfast are also magnificent. Look forward to returning soon. Well done to all the team at Cliff.

We arrived early to Cliff at Lyons. The woman at reception was very pleasant and said we would get a call when our room was ready and it shouldn’t be long. We didn’t get a call and went back to reception around 2:30pm and the room was ready. We were happy we were close to the thermal village but had a very poor night’s sleep. The floor boards in the room above were so creaky that every time someone moved we’d hear it. Unfortunately the couple above didn’t retire to the room until after midnight, which woke us as we’d gone for an early night. They were up at 5am and again at 8am..: which meant so were we. Also the room was so hot we had to open the window but in the middle of the night the heating went off and it was very cold in the morning… one extreme to the other. We had ordered liquor coffees in the bar after arriving. The were nice.. but had some much cream that they weren’t very warm. We’d also ordered a drink in the bar before dinner and paid for it… but it was also put on our dinner bill… thankfully we noticed before signing for it. Dinner was the best part of our stay. The food was beautiful, although the venison main would have benefitted from being a bit warmer. We didn’t get the specific Malbec we ordered and while it was a lovely alternative, this should have been pointed out. We enjoyed sitting by the fire in the Lyons den although service for drinks was very slow. The pantry was nice for a snack and breakfast was good and plentiful, although I ordered the Lyons breakfast with sauce on the side and it arrived with sauce over it and a sausage on the side. An error the server corrected, but with an extra sausage again which wasn’t requested. Overall, Cliff at Lyons is a beautiful place with potential. The most disappointing part was the noise in the mayors house. I mentioned upon check out about the noise and got ah I’m sorry but let us know if you ever want to book again. Not the best attitude. Unfortunately wouldn’t be booking again for a rest.
