Moon Gate Villa

An absolute paradise! We loved our stay at Moon Gate Villa from the moment we pulled off the road and headed up the driveway. The building is set back from the road and you get no noise disruption at all. We were welcomed warmly by both Lionel and Rob and their pets (3 dogs and a cat). The house is beautiful with a stunning entrance and hallway (which doesn't do it justice as there is a stream, plants and fish!). There is a lovely lounge area to sit in, and we stayed in The Writer's Retreat which was palatial. There was a giant and super comfy bed, a lounge area, a table and chairs (inside and out), a huge bathroom with giant bath and a separate large shower, and a small kitchen type area (fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, etc). Included was a brilliant breakfast including all the continental bits and pieces and made to order hot breakfast, all served in their kitchen area (which is opened in the morning for you to sit round a large table). We were given excellent service from the minute we booked. They arranged dinner reservations for us and at each restaurant we were given the best tables and received some lovely comments about how the restaurant owners loved Lionel and Rob. They also have amazing itineraries all laid out on A4 sheets of paper if you need advice on activities and road trips. Nothing was too much and we really felt at home. I can't say enough nice things about this place so go and see for yourself. 100/100 and some....

Lionel and Rob made us so welcome at Moon gate Villas. Our accommodation was in a beautiful setting within the charming garden. I have garden envy! We couldn't have asked for more. Lionel and Rob made some great suggestions for eating in Kerikeri and Russell. All in all it was the perfect place to relax and we didn't want to leave which says it all really. Thanks Lionel and Rob and the dogs and cat!

Just had the most amazing stay with Lionel and Rob. From the fabulous welcome to the final goodbye everything was exceptional. From Robs suggestions of places to visit and where best to park, to Lionel’s amazing breakfast each morning, we couldn’t have asked for more. A definite thumbs up from us 👍

Very well kept place with the nicest hosts. The rooms have a lot of space, including a privat place in the beautiful Garden. Breakfast was always great, with lots of fresh fruits and perfect eggs. Flowers and sweets on the bed in the evening! We appreciate the ideas Rob and Lionel gave us for excursions and restaurants very much.

There are no words to describe how beautiful this place is. Lionel and Rob are the best hosts we ever had. Lionel cooked for us every day an amazing breakfast and Rob was very attentive giving us loads of tips for our visit and explaining to us the history and culture behind every place. The attention to every single detail they daily spend is simply unbelievable. From the heartwarming first welcome to the lovely good night treat we found every day in our room, they are FAN-TAS-TIC!!!!

The surroundings are gorgeous - a completely unique design, with no right angles, an indoor waterfall & pond, extensive gardens, a pool - but the real treasures are the hosts, Lionel and Rob. It was like staying at a luxury hotel where your friends also happen to live, complete with flowers and chocolates on the bed at night. My friends stayed in and had NZ family drive down to meet with them, and Lionel & Rob welcomed them like family, too. The breakfasts were so great that we never needed lunch, and Lionel's suggestions for dinner both nights were perfect. Their 3 little canine fur babies were also a plus. There are only two rooms in the main house, so we had the whole place to ourselves. We would all like to go back just to visit with them.
