Crown and Garter

We stayed for one night at the Crown and Garter. Lovely well appointed rooms in a beautiful courtyard setting. Room was clean with a good variety of teas and coffee along with both still and sparkling water. Excellent information provided in the room booklet. Heating adjustments worked well. Bathroom well stocked with toiletries and plenty of towels. Lovely shower, and the automatic light in the small vestibule is a thoughtful touch - it gently illuminates the way as you enter, preventing you from stepping straight into the sleeping area, which I know some people prefer to avoid. The courtyard area outside has been beautifully designed with many separate seating areas. Whilst the evening menu wasn’t extensive, the food was very good and service attentive. We were asked to pre order our breakfast the night before with a menu provided for us to choose from. This helped manage the orders in the morning and the breakfast was excellent. Good choice of traditional English breakfast, toast, eggs, croissant and granola with yogurt. Plenty of parking available too. Great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely stay. Thoroughly recommend.

An excellent 2 night stay at crown and garter whilst visiting highclere. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner each day. Very comfortable rooms. A lovely area to explore with many footpaths from the doorstep. Really enjoyed our stay.

After completing “Inkpen Walk 2” we were ready for some sustenance. The venue is lovely on the eye and has a large, well maintained pub garden/terraced eating area. We ordered the fish & chips and burger for mains and shared the white chocolate & gooseberry Swiss roll. The fish was very greasy without too much white fish flesh. The Swiss roll was stale and the portion size tiny.

Fabulous stay, beautiful location. The pub and rooms are gorgeous with a beautiful oak tree in the pub garden. The court yard gave me some garden envy/inspiration! The staff were fantastic, the atmosphere friendly but the star of the show was the food which was Devine!!!! Absolute gem of a place 10/10.

Lovely cosy room with comfy bed, and a delightful location- the local lanes were very quiet and there are walks everywhere nearby. In a few hundred yards there was a little copse full of birds, a deer and a cuckoo! Friendly staff. The pub menu is limited for vegetarians though.

Arrived at 5ish and no dinner available! Very limited alternative options locally.. Breakfast was reasonable but a few issues. Small portions, eggs for solders were hard boiled, no butter, no jams, had to ask for more than 1 slice of toast with cooked bfast.
