Having stayed a total of 13 nights in a tent at Crusoe, it is very apparent to me that this place is one of few left that offers total tranquility and semi isolation. For those who crave this vibe I urge you to go! Ferry from ream beach is $10 return and volunteer Matty will always welcome, help, inform and assist you, as you make your short trip to paradise. The place never seems full and you’re left at times thinking you’re all alone on your own piece of island! The reef is 30-40 metres, from your bed, hammocks adorn the communal area, Sasha is on hand to help and Pei the owner is also there to ensure your needs are met. The food is sublime, given the location, all prepared and served up by family members. I found prices excellent considering diesel costs of the boats to deliver supplies, their mark up is minimal where possible. Profit here is not the motivation for Pei. Her true goal is to give you a unique experience that you won’t forget, without all the bells and whistles that usually come with more commercial options. And she does that so well, many stay an extra night! There is a beach walk and many will be appalled at the trash along the shoreline. Whilst the stretch at Crusoe is managed by the staff, further on it is a big eyesore. Sadly this is on most beaches due to the winds, cruise ships, foreigners and tourists not respecting our planet. However, the jungle/forest walk going south through the island is worth it, follow the signs, wear shoes and a hat, take water and enjoy the relative silence. For me and many before me, Crusoe is a gem, don’t leave Cambodia without visiting, you will love it!
