I had a great stay. The owners are super lovely and will go out of their way to help you.
I highly recommend the breakfast and dinners, they were great for big days of hiking and convenient as there aren't too many food options up in the mountains.
The train carriages have a large sleeping area and a connected large room to store your things or just to hang out. Yes the pillows are like a bag of rice but it's part of the experience!
Great place to stay and great value.

It was much better than I expected
I was worried that it might be too remote, but it was okay to stay there
We went shopping nearby and grilled meat (we had to pay for the rental fee for the utensils), which was a new experience in its own way
A family of four stayed in one room, and although it was a little scary because of the wind and rain, it felt like camping and was nice
For heating, they turned on a kerosene heater for an additional 600 yen for 4 people, and if you pay 200 yen per person for a hot shower, they will heat the water with firewood, so we checked out right away and went to a nearby hot spring.
