This is by far my worst travel experience at a hotel. My husband and I were looking forward to spending a part of our honeymoon here.. That is until we met the older woman who ran the place.. We were there not even 20 minutes before our negative experience began and we demanded a refund to stay else where. For starters, we thought they had assigned us an incorrect room, as the photos were very deceiving and the room looked a small fraction compared to the size online. Nonetheless we were still excited for our stay, and going to make it work as the veiw was beautiful, despite being able to feel every spring in the old matress and perhaps getting started on the wrong foot, due to room confusion. We unpacked and went to clean out our cooler in the communal kitchen. As we were running the tap continuously cleaning off products that raw meat had leaked onto (for obvious reasons).. the woman who ran the stay came in, said something angrily in croatian (she spoke very little english) reached over us, and shut off the tap. We continued as we were.. as we didn't want our cooler to smell like rotten meat. Mean while, another guest asked us to pass him the garbage, as he was also using the communal kitchen. Once he was finished, he left the garbage on top of the kitchen table. The woman who ran the place saw this, and assumed it was my husband and I who left it there. She spoke in Croatian saying how Canadians were ill mannered and had no discipline.. we knew this is what she said as the other guest spoke Croatian and told us so, and we could clearly tell she was speakily poorly about us as she said Canadians while looking enraged directly at us. We contacted the son who ran the stay online by phone, by which he attempted to rectify the situation and said his mother would apologize.. Instead of apologizing, she complained to other guests about us, assuming she was trying to justify herself. We were so upset and disgusted at how we were treated in such a short time frame we immediately looked for another place to stay, as we did not want to stay a in a place for 3 nights where we were unwelcome. It was the best thing we ever did. Never have I seen such a case of ethnocentrism against myself or another person in my life, especially a paying guest. I would never recommend such a place to any traveler, especially of you want to be respected and not have someone bad mouth you, directly infront of your face.. Very unprofessional and disrespectful.. The son did give us a refund but seemed more concerned with being out the money, compared to guest experience.
