Hotels with Breakfast in Koya

We stayed for one night. The location really is magic, our room was comfortable and it was nice to attend the early morning ceremony before breakfast. The time for dinner was really early and strict (17:45!) but it's recommended to eat in because everything around there closes early. Even if the curfew was at 21, the staff sent as away from the common spaces where we were quietly enjoying the night view at 20:20, while they let a loud group in the entrance disturb everyone until 21:30, so I was a bit upset for this. I enjoyed the onsen but it was very small, I was lucky it wasn't crowded because no more than 4 people can fit in. I personally liked the vegan dinner and breakfast, beautifully presented, but it's not for every stomach and nobody tells you what you are eating (they only told us ”this is rice, tea and watermelon”, we could guess ourselves lol). In the complex, the experience was good and I recommend it, but it's a bit too expensive for what they offer.

I drove for three hours in the morning and arrived at Koyasan from Kyoto. The temperature on the mountain was 5 or 6 degrees cooler than Kyoto. We stayed at Huiguangyuan, a 1000-year-old Buddhist monastery. The temple has traditional Japanese-style rooms and beautiful gardens. The meals are Buddhist and vegetarian, and the service staff are monks, making people feel the Japanese Buddhist culture. The morning morning there was a Buddhist morning class and meditation activities. [Konoyama] On the altar, Kalan - Jingangfeng Temple - Huiguangyuan. Koyasan is the ancestral ancestor of Dongmi Mang, and was founded by the master of Hongfa in the 7th year of Hongren (816). Legend has it that the Master of the Seas was willing to find a lotus sacred place like Wutai Mountain in China to promote the Dharma. When the line went to Gaoye Mountain, a pair of white dogs and black dogs led the way. The Masters of the Sea followed them to discover the eight peaks around the Gaoye Mountain, so they were Here you build your own dojo, which has been passed down to the present. The altar on the altar is the center of the entire Gaoye Mountain, and it is also the place where the empty sea masters first built the temple. The Jingangfeng Temple is the largest temple in Koyasan. It was originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1593, and was renamed as the King Kong Temple in the Meiji era.

It’s hard to rate this location as it’s not like anything I’ve experienced before. So a good thing to keep in mind before you go is to set your expectations. This is not a hotel so you won’t get hotel amenities. We didn’t have a private bathroom, there are limited plugs in the room, you have to wear slippers inside, limited communal shower times, and you sleep on futons on the floor. What you do get is a wonderful experience: the optional morning prayer (the whole experience was 1 h 20 min), vegetarian dinner and breakfast (some kids might not like but adventurous souls will enjoy), peaceful surroundings, old architecture, easy walk to all major sites. I would totally recommend this place for a night in koyosan. I think one night is perfect to get the full magic of the place.

We had always wanted to stay at a Shukubo (Temple Lodging) in Koyasan, but the idea of having to stay in very rustic, cold (or hot, depending on the season) rooms with little to no privacy was a big turnoff. We were also puzzled at the dizzying array of Shukubo to choose - there are 52 such properties in the area! We had two priorities: first, we were hoping to find a place that offered spacious accommodations, private toilet/shower/bath and as much privacy that can be offered in a Shukubo (and we were willing to pay for the privilege.) Secondly, we wanted a Shukubo that was renowned for incredible Shojin Ryori - a traditional vegan (although some are vegetarian) Buddhist devotional cuisine that has been perfected by Monks through the years... over 1400 years, to be a bit more precise. Through our own research and word of mouth, we settled on Ichijoin and its Special Room ”Okushoin” (貴賓室 奥書院.) For us, it was a great choice. First, the Ichijoin itself: as with other Shukubo, it's an active, living Temple with actual practicing Monks calling the place home. There is a proper Hondo (main prayer hall) and a beautiful garden with a Koi pond. The ”Otsutome” (morning ritual/prayers) by the Monks takes place in the Hondo building at 6:15 in the morning, and guests are allowed to witness (and, to some extent, participate in) the proceedings. They also have several other activities, including Shakyo (写経 - Sutra writing), ”Shabutsu” (写仏 - a kind of Buddha sketching) and ”Ajikan” (阿字觀), which is a type of Buddhist Yoga. All in all, a very unique cultural (and spiritual) experience, and is definitely worth staying at one of the 50+ Shukubo that populate the Koyasan area. What impressed us was the quality of service and level of thoughtfulness that Ichijoin displayed towards its guests. For example, service is conducted to a very high standard and reminiscent of staying in a higher end ryokan. They carried our luggage to/from our room, courteously answered all of our questions about Koyasan touring, Ichijoin's history and the various rituals that take place in the Shukubo. It's a bit more quiet and dignified, sure, but the Monks tending to the Shukubo really go out of their way to ensure their guests go away satisfied and immersed from the whole experience. Other nice touches include chairs for guests during the morning prayers. Yes - chairs in a tatami room. And yes, even Japanese (while many may not admit it) find sitting on a tatami floor for extended periods of time a very uncomfortable thing to do - especially the elderly. The chairs are well padded and gave us the chance to focus on the experience rather than adjusting our sitting position due to discomfort. Unlike many other Shukubo that we researched, at Ichijoin the meals are privately served in owe's own room by a designated Monk-butler. All of this really adds to the serenity of the experience - it's not really meant to be a loud and communal one, and Ichijoin does a really good job of delivering

This time in Japan for 10 days, the favorite is Wakayama. This tourist route is relatively niche, with fewer Chinese tourists. A Nanhai tram goes into the mountain without any caverns. The room was clean and the monks were friendly. It is recommended that you choose a meal with a meal to experience pure Japanese cuisine. Stay for 2 days and travel in depth. Tickets are the most cost-effective way to buy Nanhai tram sets, including Nanhai trams entering the mountain from the urban area, returning to the city, and an unlimited number of transportation cars at all attractions in Wakayama.

At the gate of Koyasan, take the bus at the 6th station of the mountain and get off at the post office. The opposite side of the entrance is the entrance to the Jinsan Sanyuan, and it will take five minutes. In the courtyard check-in, the monk's English is not very good, communication is difficult, and only words can be used for communication. Originally at the time of Ctrip booking, I directed this separate shower room with separate bathroom, but told us after the check-in, or the public bathroom, the room only has a separate bathroom, which is different from the one shown on Ctrip. After checking in in the afternoon, I went to the altar on the altar and rushed back to dinner at 5:30. Dinner is delivered to the room, vegetarian food, you need to eat more rice to eat, but it is very special. After the meal, the monks took the tableware away and laid the bedding on the tatami at night. I feel very comfortable and sleepy. At 5:30 in the morning, I got up and took part in the morning class at the 6:30 temple. I was so solemn and victorious that I felt some mysterious power. In the morning class, the bedding was received in the closet, and the breakfast was set up. I ate three bowls of rice and packed my bags. I asked for check-out before 9:00. We left our luggage in the monastery and asked to take it before twelve o'clock. We arrived at the baggage at 12:30. In the morning, the Aozhiyuan, Jingangfeng Temple and Lingbao Hall turned a big circle, and the Aozhiyuan lost its way, and walked nearly two kilometers. The trip to Koyasan purifies the soul, which makes me understand the development history of Dongmi and strengthens the determination to learn Dongmi.

It wasn't the most pleasant experience considering that the males n females had to share toilets and that some other rooms had private toilets n bath instead. And also the fact that the walls are super thin hence whomever is connected to your room if their loud or they don't like your voice volume than you might get kicked to the curb. It's a very frustrating experience for sure since it tests one's patience n ability to let go. It's training for the customers n monks alike. I met a Japanese friend here whom shared with me how rude the monks and the staff were to one another n I think that shows the quality of this place however we were pretty lucky as there was a male who spoke mandarin n a male who spoke English both quite well in this place n though the mandarin speaker was quite condescending towards the other monks, the English speaker was really nice n patient overall. He helped me out a lot since we couldn't communicate with the others n seemed to be the only customers that spoke English whom booked this place by ourselves, the others around seemed to have a guide n were usually in groups. It's a unique experience n I recommend just staying for one night or going to the other temples. I went for the ajikan meditation at eko in temple n the service n cleanliness was on another level for sure. The food here was also really simple. Also a must see are the tomb area n the walk to kobold daishi temple. As a sensitive person, I felt the overwhelming love n presence and the cleanse of my heart of this amazing soul over there. To me, that was worth it. Remember to clean yourself with the water out front before going in.... and of course to the amazing fateful friendship that occurred for us with the jap-********* couple we met. It was the next fav of mine after the time spent in nara visitor center. That was truly magickal n how I wished we stayed longer there. But all was good cause the way I planned this trip made it so that we would have this fateful encounter to the end of our trip.

The first time in Sufang, the experience of moving the hospital was very good. The moving hospital was built in 906, and it was dedicated to the king of the Ming Dynasty. The bird feather emperor and queen of the Ping An era were buried in this hospital. At present, 14 rooms are provided, 3 room types, 4 without bathrooms, 8 bathrooms, and 2 bathrooms. This stay is with a bathroom and the room is comfortable and clean. The public bathroom experience is also very good. Breakfast and dinner are very good. In a very beautiful and elegant room, the dining location and meals are arranged in advance, and the waiter will lead the room. Many Sufangs in Gaoye Mountain are facing the street, the courtyard is not facing the street, quiet and chic, a short walk from the bus station.

Others have written very well. Sorry, there was a particularly old monk in the morning and evening meals, and we had morning classes with us at the same time, full of joy. The little monk is very good in English, and talked a few words. He graduated from a religious university. He was born from heart to heart, and sighed sincerely. They brought spiritual practice into their lives. The buses on the street and the timetable of the hotel are very detailed, and you can speak English. Both bus and cable car train times are well matched. The hotel is very beautiful, the columns of the stairs are made of whole wood, and the annual rings are dozens or hundreds of years. The only drawback is that there is a cover on the electric heater in the bathroom, which cannot be cleaned by covering all the dust inside. A lot of fluff has accumulated.

We stayed at this temple for one night and it was worth it. You have a vegan breakfast and dinner cooked for you whilst you stay in a traditional Japanese style room. Location wise, it was perfect for us. The cemetery is about a 20-25 minute walk which isn’t too bad as you explore the area anyway. The monks were very welcoming and I had a fun conversation with one about football (they love Tomiyasu and Mitoma). They spoke English very well and I could communicate easily, even one monk who couldn’t speak much English just pulled out his phone and used translator to speak. In the morning, you’re invited to join their morning prayers which is a unique experience. It’s about 30 minutes long and certainly something you don’t want to miss. Some things to be aware of is, for us, we had the option of having dinner served at either 5 or 5:30pm. Dinner for the most part was tasty and delicious. I’m open minded and willing to try things I wouldn’t normally have - but I can imagine picky eaters not enjoying some of the dishes. Also, curfew is around 9pm. They literally shut the temple doors. So be careful about doing night tours of the cemetery that start at 7. (We went on our own accord as it was dark by 5pm anyway)
