Hotel Fuente del Sol

My wife and I booked a last minute getaway just for the night a couple of days prior to visiting, we booked the romantic package which included accommodation (we upgraded to the Imperial Suite), dinner, champagne and chocolates in the room and breakfast the next day. The room was excellent - with the log burner already roaring on arrival and logs provided to keep it doing so. The bed was huge, the bathroom as big a bathroom as I've ever seen and included a jacuzzi bath surrounded by rose petals and candles, and the suite led out on to a huge terrace with sun loungers and wonderful views down across the valleys to the Malaga coastline. The lay out and general feel of the hotel is very impressive with very high ceilings and a feeling of being in a very grand, historic building. It is not particularly modern and at some stage I'd guess it will need certain elements updating but part of the charm of the place is in the tradition of the beautiful building. We also added one hour private access to the health suite inc pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. This was reasonably priced and very relaxing. Our meal on Saturday included 3 courses and most of the a la carte menu or with the option to pay a small premium - the food and service was all good. The hotel is in a beautiful location (we have hiked in the area before and there are some beautiful walks very close by) and we would recommend the service and experience to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

Superb hotel with breathtaking views, very friendly staff and excellent food. Lovely pool area - just be warned, it takes a cautious drive up the mountain roads with many bends. The drive is worth the end result though. We were only there one night so just had the standard room and it was very spacious.

I have just returned from this fabulous hotel. The surrounding area is magnificent so beautiful. Really enjoyed our stay. I came to the area in a view to move to just outside Antequerra. A must to stay here for the peaceful and tranquil hotel.

Having paid a visit to the hotel for a drink, we were unaware that a private wedding was booked. We were made to feel uncomfortable having been asked to move to another terrace even though we had no intention of staying. The manager sent a member of staff out to speak to us twice. We rushed are drink and left. I would suggest that a sign be displayed that a private function was taking place, simple.

Why do we give the lowest recomendation. 1. Shooking bad customer service. 2. Food quality extremely disappointing. 3. Poorly staffed. We had paid totaly aprox € 30 000 for this big event, to Celebrate our wedding. 1. Based on our total experience we discussed a discount on the exceptionely bad quality on the gala menu. Two of the four disshes where not eatable. The fish was cold and cooked dry, and the dessert had been poorly prepered an the chocolate croccetes where cold. We sat down with Sara and Fatima who was incharge. At first they did not see our problem. After a while they called the owner, and they offered a small discount. Which we felt was not comparable with the huge dissapointment regarding the gala menu. We where told that they whould offer a better discount which we eccepted. When we where paying the final build, suddenly 3 cars and 6 police officers from Guardia Civil turned up. They where shouting and extremely hostile. Now we where told that we was not getting the discount anyway. Our old family members that where still in the hotel started to cry and got a terrible experience. The policemen where shouting out our names and they where taking copys of our passports and agressivly behaviour. This episode mentioned above was a exceptionell abuse of power and felt like some «mafia» stuff- like the owner was the one controlling the police. 2. We had booked the hole hotel and some of the guests stayed for one week. We experience the food quality as very varying. Depending on who and how many people that are working- the quality of the food has a range from 1-4 on the dice. They do not staff the kitchen with professionell cooks. But the price they charge is What you expect from profesionels. 3. At Breakfast there is only one person working that is supposed to serve 42 guests. During day time there is only one person that is charge of serving cold drinks, food etc. It goes without saying that this means a lot of waiting time. They even take an extra five euros charge if they serve us by the pool. Often it whould take 30-60 min to get food and drinks served. When we now in retro perspective read the reviews carefully, it seams that they have not learned a lot for the past 10 years. The same problems appear even in 2012.
