Mirror Lake Inn

5-star property across the street from a gorgeous lake. This is a classy hotel, gracious and understated. We booked a classic double queen room with “full view “ and “Sunroom Sitting Area“ and were given a nice room with an enclosed sitting area directly facing a wonderful view of the lake (see photo). The sitting area opens to Juliet-type sliding glass doors, with sliding screen doors to deter bugs. The bedding was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage available. After seeing this amazing setting, we wished we had flexibility in our schedule to stay for longer than one night. The resort offers complimentary coffee and tea service in the lobby area, as well as a filtered water and sparkling water dispenser near the entrance to the fine dining restaurant, The View. There are also free cookies offered at the front desk seemingly all the time. Service was excellent. The resort is conveniently located at one end of the quaint village of Mirror Lake. It is a good base for exploring the area by foot. The only negative was a surprise charge automatically applied to our credit card of $10 for a housekeeping gratuity that we only saw after the folio was emailed to us. As we always do, we left a cash gratuity for housekeeping in the room. I have never seen this kind of charge at any hotel anywhere in the world. If a hotel is going to do this, they really need to let guests know so they can appropriately account for it.

My time at the Mirror Lake Inn was spectacular. The hotel is just beyond the little town center so it is set back a bit and feels private. The drive up from Boston is a solid 5-6 hours but definitely worth it. I have never been to upstate NY before but will definitely be coming back here in my life, hopefully in the fall and winter. The hotel is cozy yet high end feeling. The grounds are beautiful, the flowers and landscaping in August were one of my favorite parts. I loved the hot tub and pool which had an indoor cabin feel. We dined at the View for breakfast and dinner one evening and it was delicious, one of the best breakfasts I have had on vacation. They even put happy anniversary on our dinner menus and took a photo for our special occasion. I wish we were there for longer so our days kind of felt rushed since we were trying to do so much. I'd recommend the High Falls Gorge and the Adirondack Foot Sanctuary. Everything was just beautiful and cottage-y. The hotel is so quiet and peaceful, the rooms have a great view of the lake and have a nook with chairs by the sliding doors.
