We had an incredible week in Samoa staying at Aga Reef. The resort is blissful; quiet, relaxed with beautiful views out to the reef, the beach and the bush line behind. We did not hire a car and the resort were happy to help with transfers to Lalomanu beach (free transfer), To Sua ocean trench, to the fiafia night at another hotel, and to another resort to see the green turtles (paid for). Going for visits to the other resorts made it clear how lovely and peaceful Aga Reef is. The reef was fun to snorkel and kayak on. It is not an adventure filled location, expect to be content with beautiful scenery, warm weather and relax! The restaurant had a fresh fish option daily, including tuna, mahi mahi and snapper, all of which were lovely. The traditional porridge, fresh fruit and the pancakes were some of the highlights of breakfast. We were lucky enough to be upgraded for free to their VIP villa which was a real treat. It was a beautiful villa with a large balcony and a plunge pool, a very comfortable bed and a fantastic bathroom. The reception area is beautiful, there are paintings of the owners grandparents who started the Aga Reef Resort, lovely to see the family aspect of the business. The gardens were kept really well, our flowers bouquets in our room were rearranged by hand during our stay. The staff were all friendly and attentive. We unfortunately ran out of sun cream whilst there but the reception were happy to assist us and had some bought to our villa within the hour, particularly helpful as we had visited a local shop the day before which did not stock it so this may have saved us a long trip back to Apia. When we arrived at the airport we were greeted with a friendly Talofa, a cold bottle of water and a beautiful handmade lei. We could not fault our time in Aga Reef, if you want a tranquil retreat, Aga Reef is prefect for you. I loved our trip to Samoa and would be delighted to stay in Aga Reef again.

Samoa is gorgeous. This hotel location has calm lagoon, green mountain views, and amazing ocean views. We stayed on the island and it was fantastic. The Cabin is comfortable with air conditioning, small Fridge, Coffee / Tea, Shower and Tub. They also have free unlimited Wifi. We loved the deck outside on the lagoon with couch and lounge chair. There are 2 swimming pools and great snorkeling. This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have had. The food was wonderful, the lobster was my favorite. They also have massages on the property, which was very good. They will do laundry (for fee). We watched beautiful sunsets, loved hanging out in the little rock lagoon and took a nice walk down the beach. We are so happy to have been able to spend time in the very special place.

As some have mentioned, the resort is looking a little tired but there seems to be work to update it. Our room was nice, very clean and comfortable (great aircon). The resort overall has great facilities, 2 nice pools and a lagoon formed by the island and bridge. Excellent for swimming and snorkelling although avoid low tide. Lots of tropical fish and a TURTLE! The food was great, not a huge menu but very nice. Included breakfast was always a nice start to the day, loved happy hour 4-6pm by the pool, then straight into dinner. Staff were very friendly. As I grew up with Samoans raised in NZ, I forgot that English isn't their first language so just remember to be clear and its their country so they don't have to be 100% fluent in any other language besides Samoan. Overall, a very nice stay, not as expensive as other high end resorts, we lucked out as although its not adults-only, there were no kids. :-)

Can't rate this place highly enough. I'm just sad we didn't stay for longer. Staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. It is a beautiful location and a perfect place to chill and relax. Great snorkeling and pool areas. Food was really great. Would love to come back and highly recommend for a romantic getaway.

We have just spent a very relaxing week at Aga Reef. Every staff member was friendly and welcoming. We were given an upgrade to the VIP Villa. This was the icing on the cake! We ate all our meals in the restaurant, even though we had planned to eat some meals elsewhere, we decided we just did not want to leave. We were not disappointed. We did repeat a couple of meals because we do not eat meat (but we do eat seafood). The fish portions were much bigger than we are used to at home and the fish of the day changes. We appreciated the included breakfast. There was local music playing quietly in the restaurant which we enjoyed. The ground staff were working daily to keep the gardens looking clean and tidy and it is obvious that a lot of effort has been made in new plantings. They look great. The water was warm and we snorkeled and used the kayaks- both free. The kayaks looked fairly new. We saw plenty of fish in the lagoon and could not see any reason to go elsewhere. If there was an item missing from the daily service, a simple note left for the next day had it sorted, or we could have gone to reception. Not a problem. The quiet atmosphere was exactly what we were after. If you are looking for a party atmosphere- go somewhere else. Be prepared for a trip of 90 minutes from the airport. We have already recommended Aga Reef to family and friends.

From check in to check out the staff were friendly, helpful, and accomodating. This resort offers a beautiful full a la carte menu option for breakfast, with juices, fruit, coffee, tea, and samoan porridge - we rate the banana one!!! We stayed in Villa 1 on the island, and to look back at the lush tropical bank over the coral filled lagoon is worth the room upgrade. Snorkeling is definitely why you visit this resort 10/10 - definitely head under the bridge, down the beach towards the big island for the best snorkelling spots. If you want a white sandy swimming beach, this resort is not likely for you - though they do have 2 pools and a small swimming hole protected by rock. Tala is great - he's pick up and drop off (for a fee) - bring him chocolate. Albert is the star of the resort and makes a great fruit smoothie! The resort could use some landscaping and maintenance upgrades, but overall is a pleasant, quiet, relaxed vibe! Recommend.

The definition is “a place that is frequented for holidays or recreation”. Ok then. Some resorts are basic, some luxurious and alas, too many claim to be what they are not. Having spent 7 nights at Agareef (3 in a ocean breeze room and 4 in the VIP villa), and having dinner every night at the resort I can say that the restaurant staff is very friendly, though not always very competent; that the food is mostly good, some very good; but the menu has such a limited choice, that we ended up eating the same 2 items during our whole stay. I asked for some variation (same pasta, but with a oil and garlic sauce, not the carbonara on the menu, but no luck). Claimed tour desk ? Unexistent. Suggestions for tours/visits ? None. The room and villa ? The room lived up to it’s description. As far as the villa is concerned, we could see that professional marketeers had been at work…“If you like to combine luxury and beauty with the best ocean view then you just found the right solution. We have also added sun-beds on the large deck…” Yes, the “villa” is nice and spacious, but the “sunbeds” are old wooden lounge chairs without matrasses, so very hard to sit on. Yes, this is Samoa and not the Maldives. But then resorts like this one should charge accordingly or offer the facilities one would expect when paying a top price. Early risers like me (usually 5 am) will find everything locked till 7 am and no place to sit or have a coffee if spouse/partner tend to sleep a bit later, and don’t expect the beaches, nor the mini-pool, to be like in the pictures. So… not a bad experience for Samoa, but do pray for nice weather because on rainy days, the sea gets rough and as the resort if 90 minutes drive from Apia, there is really nothing to do but read. Not a bad pastime anyhow...

I have read some of the other reviews, and I can't agree more. Friendly staff, so accommodating. Beautiful location, well kept grounds and amenities. We stayed in the VIP suite, it was amazing. By far the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever had! Thank you to Rick for the fishing, that was once in a lifetime! We did not realize how far the resort is from Apia, so we ended up spending all of our time close by and at the resort... which was not a bad thing! Absolutely recommend staying at the Aga Reef Resort.
