For my 30th birthday this weekend, my partner and I stayed at Northcote for one night, with the gourmet 5 course meal & breakfast included, we stayed in the deluxe room (room 12). On arrival, we were checked in by a friendly lady at reception & taken up to our room. Everything was explained to us and we were shown where to find everything we needed in the room, we were also offered a turndown service for later in the evening. The room itself was gorgeous, with a double bed, big wardrobes, TV and a sitting area with a sofa, chair and coffee table. The room is supplied with everything you need; a safe, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, fridge. The selection of teas and coffees is lovely and the homemade ginger biscuits are the nicest touch. The staff even left a handwritten birthday card for me. You can tune into the “KITCHEN TV” channel and watch the chefs at work down in the kitchen - sooo cool! The bathroom was lovely, with a stand up shower & a separate huge bath. Gorgeous fluffy towels, fluffy bathrobes and Templespa toiletries. We spent the afternoon on the terrace drinking cocktails. We also had the cheese savoury sandwich and triple cooked chips, which were yummy! At 7.30pm we made our way down to the Michelin starred Northcote Restaurant - I will write a separate review on this, but the food was out of this world! When we returned to our room, our bed had been turned down, lighting adjusted, curtains closed, nightlight in the bathroom turned on, slippers and lip balms left by the bed. We had a lovely nights sleep! In the morning, we had tea and coffee and the homemade ginger biscuits in bed before we went down for breakfast. Breakfast was absolutely delightful; we had tea & coffee and fresh orange juice to drink. To start, we had the Greek yoghurt with fresh fruit and homemade granola, followed by sourdough toast, and then poached egg and avocado on toast which was absolutely delicious. On your way out, there is also a little collection of Northcote goodies that you can buy; we bought a couple of the “I’d rather be at Northcote” mugs & a bottle of Obsession gin which is made specifically for Northcote!! A few little points to mention; • It was a super sunny day and there were lots and lots of wasps flying around, landing on people’s drinks, the staff were aware of this & it would have been nice to have been given a cover for the top of your glass to keep the wasps away. • Our table for the 5 course meal was booked for 19.30pm and we were asked to arrive at 19.00pm but weren’t taken into the restaurant until almost 20.00pm, which didn’t seem right (although the food was out of this world and we soon forgot about that) • Inexperienced waitress at breakfast bringing wrong items to the table and generally being very loud in a small quiet room. Only pointing these out as it is a lot of money for a 1 night stay somewhere so we expect perfection. Although we still had an absolutely amazing time, just these small things could be loo
