Stopped here for lunch while walking through the Dales with our dog. A lovely pub serving proper pub grub! Husband opted for the chicken burger and I had the vegetable lasagna. Food was lovely and served quickly. The gentleman at the bar was very accommodating and friendly. It was a shame that it wasn’t busier as that would have made for a better atmosphere! However overall we had a lovely visit.

Room was just about ok for the money charged....very dated though, shower cramped and black mould around the ceiling. TV....hahahaha I have a bigger pc monitor. The small screen is so far away from the bed you need binoculars to see it. Strong fishy smell in the accomodation lobby. WiFi was good so fair play for that. Bar staff (lady) miserable with us but real chippy when local lads came in, can only assume they don't really want visitors. Didn't change when we revisited the bar through the evening and the staff had changed to a fella who managed to be even more of a misogg. Beer was spot on but the food.....oh my goodness it is so poor. The dining area was like something from Fawlty towers or maybe a care home....needs some modernisation on the decorating front. The menu is just too busy, cut down what you sell and maybe your quality will go up.....but you will need to get rid of the school cook to fully improve the food. Beer beef casserole was bland beyond belief. Fishcakes cold in the middle and lacking fish, the bits of mozzarella were solid not melted. Cod and chips tasted like it was precooked frozen fare. Chips were ok though. But as the food was so bad on the first night we went on the second night to Aygarth falls restaurant for a fantastic Sunday roast (highly recommended) Breakfast at the F&H.....why do the ladies of a group only get 2 rashers yet the fellas get 3, maybe it's some weird local custom or equality just has reached you yet. Breakfast was passed off as a full English yet was missing the staples of mushrooms and beans and what you do get is a child size portion...not ideal when your off out walking all day. I would however like to congratulate the young serving staff....they were polite and attentive...well done ladies. All in all if you do get to this review ...take my advice...I would look elsewhere

Stopped for a pub lunch here - big mistake. The barman/pub owner would be the most miserable, grumpy person I’ve come across - just about ever! The Ploughman s lunch was ok but I didn’t enjoy it as I just wanted to leave. He created a horrible atmosphere to enjoy anything.

Theakstons Best Bitter good. Hospitality poor. Why was the landlord or barman so miserable and unwelcoming? Even the locals were arrogant “were sitting there.” But they weren’t! The outside picnic tables needed some attention too. Shall not return in a hurry!

We wasn’t welcomed very well and the bar staff did not acknowledge us when we arrived. The bar staff seemed miserable with not a smile in sight. However, I have no choice to rate this establishment highly on its food and drink and extremely good value. The food was excellent and the lady /staff that brought out the food were kind and smiling. It’s just a shame the front of house staff aren’t as welcoming as the back of house.

Comfortable, quite room. Would have given 5* had the double bed been a king. Having said that, there was a single bed in the room as well, but I didn't want to create unnecessary washing. Tea/coffee and biscuits in the room plus promised hairdryer. Good wifi. Breakfast next door in the pub was very good. We didn't eat here in the evening but the menu looked really nice. Small restaurant so I would think booking would be sensible. Parking is available on the street. We parked on the opposite side of the green, but we didn't get back till 10pm ish so prime parking had already gone.

Don't go!!! We were on a family holiday and popped into the pub for something to eat. I opened the door into the pub with a toddler and said hello to the barman he didn't even smile or speak ! We sat outside and did have a drink but decided not to eat there as that pub did not deserve our money . The village is beautiful but would not go in that pub again . We moved onto Bainbridge and got a far better welcome

West Burton is a gorgeous village with nice walks, village green and this great pub. We went for family lunch and there were good options for kids, friendly staff and reasonable prices. A cosy pub, nice atmosphere and good staff. Will definitely visit again.
