This time I am most satisfied with this hotel in London, Birmingham and Oxford. It is clean and tidy. The staff are super nice. The taxi service is attentive and affordable. A big Mercedes Benz costs 25 pounds to go to the train station.
Amazing find just beautiful! We came for the night as a little family hen do. My mum, sister and niece came Saturday afternoon and stayed till Sunday. EVERYONE was so welcoming helpful and polite. Our rooms were amazing with everything you needed. We had a balcony overlooking the grounds to the the river Thames. Nice and clean with really comfy beds. We used the pool and steam room Saturday afternoon unfortunately the jacuzzi wasn’t working and had been drained but didn’t stop us relaxing. Our dinner Saturday night in Napiers was delicious! Our waitress Abby was polite, chatty and lovely to chat to. She was really helpful. Breakfast was awesome! And great that you could take a coffee away with you in the disposable cups provided. My niece wants to make it a regular trip!! Highly recommend
The Oxford House is a great place to stay for a quick night in Oxford on a budget. We dropped in without a pre-booked reservation on a quick stop in Oxford on our road trip out to Wales and got a room right away without any issues. Our room was tidy, clean and was stocked with tea and coffee. Parking was free and available right out front.

The hotel is in a quiet location. We were placed in another building, but the air conditioner was broken. The hotel placed an electric heater, so the room was not cold. There was an electric towel rail. The floor was carpeted, but the floor felt uneven. There were two rooms very close to each other through an outer door, and the sound insulation was slightly poor. I could hear clearly when someone opened the door in another room in the early morning.
If it was not for the amazing staff, I would have left and asked for full refund. The manager - I believe her name is Ema, and room cleaning lady, they call her Auntie were amazing. She did everything from cleaning the rooms, hotel, and cooking! She deserves a raise. I think the owner is lucky - did not meet him, but here is my feedback directly to him: You ate lucky to have such dedicated staff. Please acknowledge them and reward them. The hotel has a lot of deferred maintenance. No hot or good pressure bathroom water. Beds are old, window does not work, no light bulbs in fixtures, no heating, very cold rooms …. Etc etc May be you are waiting to sell the place. However, I think you should consider spending some money on capital repairs. The breakfast is terrible. Please try your self the Spanish or bacon omelette!
I had a night's stay at the Balkan Lodge Hotel in early December. I booked a single room and was using it as a short stopover on my way to Swindon. I'd never visited Oxford before so it was an opportunity to have a look around the city. The first thing that attracted me to the Balkan Lodge was the free parking. And there is a car park at the rear of the property with room for about 8 cars. It's a large building and after parking I went through to the reception and checked in with the very helpful host John. My room was upstairs and whilst not the biggest was okay. Clean and tidy, plenty of tea bags, coffee, a kettle that worked and a decent little t.v. The bathroom was small but usable and the room was warm. A minor demerit the hotel no longer do breakfast so for the £80 I paid I felt it was ten pounds too much. I was aware of this before I booked so no major issue really. There is a cafe just up the road, 'Sylvie' and I used that for breakfast the next morning although it was pricey. It's part of another guest house I believe. The other thing to be aware of with the Balkan Lodge is that it's a fairly long walk to Oxford centre and all the major attractions. Over a mile I'd say. I'm sure a taxi would be possible though. Overall I had a decent stay at the hotel and would be happy to use it again.
We were very apprehensive about staying here after reading the reviews but as we only wanted a room for two nights we thought we would take the chance. The room was basic but clean with a good shower and included tea, coffee, biscuits and toiletries. Nice white fluffy towels too. Downsides were a damp problem which resulted in mould spots on the back wall and rubbish in the front seating area which wasn’t removed during our stay. However, at £135 for two nights it still represented very good value for money especially as parking was included and it was within walking distance of the town with bus stops nearby if half an hour walk is too much. The Co-op a few doors away sold some decent pastries for breakfast but there are also cafes close by for something more substantial. I don’t know what some people expect for the money they pay. Oxford can be expensive and this is a perfectly good budget option. We would stay again.
First up: do not, under any circumstances, book a room here. Booked a Saturday and Sunday for a friend’s thirtieth. Checked in and unpacked, then another couple showed up for the same room. Turns out the hotel had cancelled our room without telling us (but, notably, AFTER charging us) and then required us to leave our event, come back, pack up all our stuff, and move out, (or “we will take your things and throw them out on the street”). The manager on the phone was unable to explain what had happened, couldn’t access the back-end system, and eventually decided that it was our fault that we’d mistyped an email address (an error on our end BUT we had been in text contact throughout the preceding week and they hadn’t bothered to tell us we no longer had a reservation), and then later that we hadn’t clicked “confirm” on an email we never got. Side note: I’ve worked in hotels for years; this explanation is nonsense; and even if it wasn’t - if you thought we’d cancelled, why did you still charge us for the room? I guess this is what happens when you don’t actually have any staff on the premises to sort out issues. As it was, after booking and paying for a room months ago, we were left stranded in the middle of Oxford with nowhere to stay. No apology from the hotel and it took two weeks of both of us dealing with increasingly hostile management before getting our room refunded. Minus a tenner they kept for themselves to pay for “the diary management’s company’s admin fee” - again, I worked in the industry, we all know that this is nonsense, Eviivo OBVIOUSLY don’t charge admin fees per email, but I guess they fancied helping themselves to an extra £10 for all their hard work in not hosting us. Just really small-time behaviour all round. It’s a shame because the room itself looked nice but I would recommend that you only book this place if you’re fine with not actually being allowed to stay in it.
There is a bus station next to the hotel. It is more convenient to go to oxford center. The room size is okay, with plenty of sunlight, clean, and warm. The view from the window is very good. I saw a little squirrel in the morning, and the children liked it very much. However, after the check-in time is 4 o'clock, the check-out time is 10 o'clock, which is really inconvenient. In addition, the room cleaning will only be provided if the stay is more than 5 consecutive days. We have not cleaned the room for three consecutive days. I think it is not very reasonable and needs to be improved. .
The first person we fell in love is the manager Daniel Kiss. even we have never got a chance to meet him in person. Very pleasant and helpful with booking our stay. Always replied our email promptly. The second person is his colleague. It’s a shame we never got his name. Very helpful and friendly upon check in. Love smiling ☺️. Helped us retrieve key and open the door to our hotel. The room is very big and clean. It has everything you need inside the room. Even microwave. Plates and utensils. Bathroom is very clean. We stayed at the main floor. Not noisy even our room is facing main road. There’s a bus stop just right in front of the hotel. My husband and I enjoy walking. So We walked all the way to the city center and basically walk as far as our legs can take us. We will definitely go back again and highly recommended. Shame I don’t have any photos of the hotel.
