I have stayed at a lot of budget accommodations in London. This is one i won’t forget. I was worried about noise being a KCL student accommodation. I was not prepared for filth and neglect. First, there was a disgusting baby bottle full of disgusting dark fluid on the desk. Random! Then no toilet paper. No shower curtain either, but somehow toilet paper I thought was below the belt (literally). Light in the bathroom didn’t work. Otherwise I might have seen no toilet paper. The Mattress springs were all broken. The duvet like the carpet was filthy. No glass for water - nothing! Squalor. So no, I do not recommend this place

The actual accommodations here are great. I do not understand why people are dissatisfied with the wet room set up for the bathroom - having your own bathroom at this price in a HCOL city is fantastic. The problem with this property is the housekeeping staff. I thought there would be no housekeeping at this property, which I was fine with. However, housekeeping did show up twice during my ten day stay and on the second time, they left my door unlocked all day (and propped open the outer fire door on top of that), meaning anyone could walk in and steal my passport or other valuables. They also removed both of my towels and left me with just a hand towel and ripped my phone charger out of the wall, but this was secondary to the main issue of the unlocked door.

I stayed for 1 night at the Dover Street Apartments. All I used the staff for was to pick up the keys so I can not really comment on the service I received. The room was small but big enough for my requirements. Very good location only a 10 minute walk to London Bridge. I had an en-suite shower which was impossible to keep to an even temperature as I spent a few moments getting the temperature right only for it to fluctuate between cold and too hot whilst showering. There was a desk and chair in the room and plenty of cupboard space. The bed was too soft for my liking but clean enough. There was a separate shared kitchen down the hall which had all the usual kitchen amenities except the most important one a kettle! I did mention this to reception but as I only spent 1 night I do not know if this was resolved, although there was a tea and coffee making machine in reception which I used to make my tea and porridge in the morning. It could also be used for filling water bottles. I was concerned about it being noisy at night as after all it is student accommodation but it was very quiet even though I was on the ground floor and my window faced the main courtyard area. Over all I would highly recommend Great Dover Street Apartments as it is a cheap place to stay in central London.

If you are prepared to make a lot of compromises in order to be able to stay alone and cheaply near the Thames, this is OK. These are student apartments in a residential complex that belongs to King's College. When you check in at the reception, which is open 24 hours a day, you are given a transponder for the entrances and a classic room key. You are also offered a mailbox for central mail service. The rooms are very spartanly furnished and tailored to the student target group. The walls are thin and rattling doors and squeaky hinges are not uncommon. The mixer tap is very old and it is either very hot or very cold. This is also reflected in a "maintenance list" that you can sometimes see open at the reception. Despite all this, you can sleep here for a few nights. A highlight in the neighborhood is the Roebuck Pub opposite, which also serves good food. Tip: Cloud WiFi from the provider Sky is available free of charge after registration - an alternative for people who cannot use eduroam.
