As far as the cancellation conditions and the handling of cancellations due to illness are concerned, I have never encountered anything like this in more than 100 different group trips/conferences that I have organized in around 25 years. Here, a 6-week notice period applies before the arrival date, after which 90% of the room price is due. This is also handled consistently, without any ifs and buts. It is all stated in the booking confirmation and there is also a reference to travel cancellation insurance. So far, I have not experienced a hotel not showing understanding and treating the cancellation due to illness as a goodwill gesture. On one occasion, the cancellation fee had to be paid, but the couple who had to cancel received a voucher. But the request for a voucher was also rejected here. I actually wanted to hold a specialist conference in the hotel next year. However, as these always result in short-term cancellations due to operational reasons, I will not be able to make any room reservations/bookings here. It's a shame, because the hotel itself has good conditions. I can only recommend that all future guests take out travel cancellation insurance, otherwise they will incur high cancellation fees.
