Hôtel le Cantou 354

With views across the Dordogne Valley this restaurant is a great venue to try some top class menu items. Each dish has been created to showcase their skills at both presentation and taste. The host has a flamboyant enthusiasm for their creations.

Set in a simply beautiful hill top village the hotel doesn't really advertise its name so you have to look for it. But boy is it worth the effort. I write as a dog owner so am reviewing from that point. The owner manager is a dog owner (of the delightful Scarlett) so understands all about how good it is to have a ground floor room with garden access! Our dog friendly room was as close to the garden as you could get and whilst it wouldn't be described as luxurious it was all you'd ever ask for with a decent sized well equipped bathroom. The highlight of Le Cantou 354 is undoubtedly the restaurant with the owners Christophe and Romain a close second and the food is heavenly. Coupled with a pretty good wine list as well. The restaurant is perhaps eccentrically styled but it works really well and there is a sense of occasion with stunning views (and sunsets from the corner table). The dogs were allowed in without a murmur which isn't always the case now in France. Breakfast is self service and there's a good selection of the usual tasty french fare. The staff without exception are happy, helpful and polite.

I really loved this hotel. From the moment I arrived the staff were both very friendly and very professional. Compared to other quite staid and old school hotels I’ve stayed in recent days, it’s got some life and colour and the rooms have a more modern feel to them. It has everything that you need and with the fan in the ceiling not having air conditioning wasn’t an issue at all. I had a wonderful dining experience for dinner too. Food was good, service was wonderful and it was lovely and relaxing to sit in the outside warmth for a good couple of hours plus. I really don’t know why it is two stars as it was just lovely all around. I would love to have been able to stay another couple of nights.

We highly recommend this hotel. Don’t understand why it receives only a two star. Other than the fact that the rooms don’t have air conditioning. The rooms are small and very simple, but very clean and have great views. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel restaurant is very good and we recommend eating there. The breakfast that is included with the room is good. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and attentive.

If you want warm hospitality, friendly service and delicious food then this is your place . We had a very welcoming and fun overnight stay whilst hiking in the Dordogne. Christophe was so very accommodating and the pasta bolognaise was amazing! Thank you so much Christophe and Romain.
