It's the same husband and wife that own The Bell in Iveychurch, so no surprise the Sunday Roast was really good and plenty of it without going for the "large" option also not too expensive. It was however very busy but didn't have much of a wait, just enough time to finish my beer.

What can I say... Old school pub doing what an old school boozer should - warm welcome and well kept beer, wine and excellently poured Guinness. (Don't really want to revisit previous trauma and the previous hosts but on one previous visit there was no beer on pump... As a publican you have one job....) However, good denizens of Lydd and Romney Marsh - here is the game changer - pub grub. Two words - so many interpretations... And here too they've nailed this as well. No unnecessary frippery or overcomplicated menus - Mantra for life, keep it simple, execute well - and this they do. Half a dozen or so starters, similar number of mains plus a selection of burgers - bosh. All of our party of four were happy with our combinations - there's probably a dessert menu but we were so well fed by starters and mains, desserts didn't get a look in. Special mention for the pies - again, keep it simple, execute well - decent pastry, lots of filling, carb of choice (chips or mashed potato), bit of veg + gravy. Thank you for giving us our pub back.

Being both vegan it’s always very hard to eat somewhere locally. As The George is under new ownership, we decided to give it a try. We were greeted by the friendly new owner, and was soon seated pursuing the menu. It was great to see a good number of options for us to choose from, and plus not the normal offerings. We decided on the vegan platter which came out very well presented, extremely tasty and made for a great meal out.

Booked Sunday lunch. We were shown to our table, then nothing happened for a while so we went to find out if we had to get drinks from the bar. Waitress took order and drinks came. Restaurant nicely decorated and very clean. Carvery, generous helpings of freshly roasted meat, lovely crisp roast potatoes, good selection of veg. All very nicely cooked. We finished and sat and waited, other people’s plates had been taken and they’d been offered puddings! We waited and waited I the end my husband went and asked if we could have puddings. Manager said she’d send waitress over. Waitress came took order for desserts about 5 minutes later she came back plonked the desserts and a small jug of custard on the table and walked off! I had to go and ask for spoons to eat the dessert with! I really felt we were invisible! It wasn’t a cheap lunch £52 for the two of us but was sadly spoilt by lack of service by the waitresses. If they put as much effort into their job as they did into their dress and make up, they’d be a credit to the restaurant. Maybe our faces didn’t fit! Harsh but true I’m afraid.

Popped in casually on a Sunday whilst cycling. Excellent carvery ; generous portions. Well cooked meat and vegetables; excellent crackling. Good value . Attentive friendly staff. Fair range of beers. Very pleasant pint of Green King Abbot Ale. Worth visiting.

We had the Christmas dinner menu at the George with friends. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Warm log fire created a nice ambience for the evening. Would highly recommend the George.

Went there for food with family, cold and tasteless, staff rude and unhelpful nothing like the previous owners who couldn’t do enough for you. I’ve always enjoyed going there when visiting family but will now be finding somewhere different

Staff were rather rude and surprisingly disrespectful, I would definitely not go there again. I am greatly disappointed, used to be a lovely place with the old owners and workers now it’s just not the same.

Visited on Sunday and had all the parts of a great British pub. We’ll priced drink’s, friendly staff, live music and a meat raffle. Free bar snacks. If you’re in the area on a Sunday and want the best of a pub experience I’d recommend here. And from next week their kitchen opens for Sunday Carvery’s. I’ll be heading back to try that.
