Let’s start with the positives. The hotel is on an excellent location on the Gran Via. The downside of its location is the outdoor noise. Loud police sirens throughout the night etc. Guess you cannot have location and tranquility if you wanna be in the heart of the city. I accept that. The complimentary unlimited tea and coffee machine was a plus and bottles of water are reasonably priced at 1 euro. The negatives - Needs some basic renovation. The room was quite tired. I understand it isn’t a luxury hotel, but there were elements that were inexcusable. It doesn’t cost much to change the extremely cheap flimpsy desk thats about to collapse. A new one of that type at Ikea would cost 50 euros max. We were advised on arrival that the air con had broken and they were gonna fit a ceiling fan. Consider that the temperature in Madrid was around 33 degrees. The fan was fitted a day later and I am sorry to say that it wasn’t enough to keep a bedroom cool in the high Madrid Temperatures. Not sure why they didn’t just swap the old air con for a new one. Guessing it’s a cutting costs operation, but you cannot cut corners with air con in one of the hottest cities in Europe, unless they do not hire the rooms during the warmer months. It’s a shame they fail with these details, cos it could be a great place if they paid attention to small details that don’t actually cost huge sums of money to remedy.
