I booked a hotel for 3 nights before holidaying on the island. We arrived early and decided to see the “local Maldives” and not the island resorts. Let me make a reservation right away: I am a loyal and experienced traveler, I’ve seen all sorts of different things. In the Maldives for the third time, before that I was only in resorts. But we decided to diversify the Maldives and see the local flavor. Initially, we lived for 4 days in Hulhumale and decided to move over to see Male itself. We booked a superior room with a sea view at the Mookai Hotel for three days. The photo shows not a new hotel, but everything is clean, the room is spacious and 4*, at a nice discount from Agoda, about $100 a night without breakfast, I think ok. We arrive, but in fact the room does not correspond to the photo that was taken when booking. The bed is not big at all, probably 150, although it is stated that it is big. As for me, it should be no less than king size. The furniture is all very old, scratched, as if it was about to fall apart. There is mold in the bathroom, a musty smell, everything is old. A sheet with a torn piece of about 40cm, two old sheets instead of a duvet cover, midges live in the room, they crawl everywhere, they don’t seem to bite, but it’s not pleasant when they are on the saucer and on the teapot. The dirty curtains below were once white, but alas, time has passed. The dirt has taken its toll, it feels like the floors are being wiped down, turning them black in places, the lamp is falling apart above the bed. They glued it with tape from the inside several times, pieces of plastic were missing in some places. The room has chairs like armchairs, with a soft silk-like seat. It would be better to just take them out. They are hairy and stained. What disgusted me most was the bathroom; mold is unacceptable to me, especially in such volumes and scales. I come to the reception and ask to change the room to a clean one without mold. They send an employee to my room who escorted us to the room to see the reason for my request. He comes and asks what’s wrong. I show him and explain that you can’t live with mold, to which he says that now we’ll wash everything off. I was shocked, even confused, but explained that it was not dirt and it couldn’t be washed off just like that. I didn’t notice all the other delights of the room in the smaller one; mold was my main nightmare, and I didn’t see everything else right away. The employee went to the reception desk, and I followed him. He is given another key to the same room on the floor above. We go in, he runs to show a partial view of the ocean from behind the construction site, and I go into the bathroom to look around. The situation is similar. The same. In general, they showed me 3 rooms, one of them more or less, but the room category is different, the window faces an old wall, which is located at a distance of about 50 cm from the window, no more. Consider there is no window, it’s dark like a basement. It’s morally pressing. The hotel administration threw up its hands and suggested calling Agoda. I wrote to them in support on Instagram, the photos were not loading from the mail. The Internet is so-so, it loads online, but you can’t upload photos and you couldn’t download the pdf file. Anod somehow responded that we couldn’t rebook you with another one. And then I realized that this is not Booking or an island that does not scam clients. I'm waiting for them to ask
