We’ve just returned from a short tour on Northern Italy and we’d picked Massa as a good location to visit Pisa, Lucca and the Cinque Terre. By chance, we booked into Stella Della Versilia which was really well priced on a well known booking agent’s website. Little did we know what a super choice we’d made. The property is stunning, extremely well presented and clean. There is a large garden to the rear with a small pool and kids play area. The staff are really friendly and speak fluent English. We found the reception staff, bar staff and waiters were all lovely. The Head Chef, Michele Mancini is absolutely first class and his food is spot on, we ate there on both nights of our stay. He is a really warm and friendly character who welcomed us like family. He even made us a little pack lunch with savoury treats for our onward journey. A little bonus, in particular for our 10 year old football obsessed son is that the hotel is owned by Gianluigi Buffon, the ex Italian goalkeeper. The hotel is full of his memorabilia which was a great conversation piece. We would really recommend this property. Regarding Massa itself, as it was low season when we visited, we did struggle a little, especially due to the late opening times for restaurants and bars. We didn’t see it in its best light so it would be unfair to comment on it. It’s a good base though as mentioned above.

Stayed with friends for 3 nights in September. We stayed in room 108 that had a huge balcony/ terrace which was great for pre dinner drinks. Room was a good size with nice furniture but shame there wasn't any English channels on the TV. Plenty of room in the car park. Hotel has a great display of football memorability related to Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, whose family own the hotel, and are great to look at when having a drink in the bar. We had lunch once and dinner twice in the hotel and the food was lovely and to be recommended. Most of the staff were very helpful but some need to learn to smile a bit more. Pool isn't as big as in the photos. Clearly used a wide angle lens! I'd stay again if in the area.

The Hotel Stella Della Versilia is a bit hidden in the second street from the boulevard along the beach, about 1 km from the center of Massa di Marina, and only 200 m from the beach. It is surrounded by a beautiful small park with a small fitness facility and sunbeds spread over the park. Our room (a suite) was very spacious and had all the 4-star comfort you would expect. Style is maybe more important than functionality, but everything is well-maintained, working and modern. Beds are great, and it is really silent at night. The hotel offers a small spa, an outside pool with limited size, a bar and a nice restaurant with surprisingly good cooking. The choice of dishes is somewhat limited, but food is fresh and prices are fair. Staff is really very helpful, friendly and service-oriented, and that is a big plus. The hotel is owned by the Buffon family (one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time), and there are memorabilia of his career in several areas. It provides an excellent base for a holiday at the coast, both for couples and families with young children. There is a free large monitored parking place with a separate entrance, so no need to worry about parking your car.

Really enjoyed our stay in the hotel. We stayed in a family suite with two rooms and a terrace with a hot tub, contemporary designed and generous sized room. Excellent service, food and drinks. The local beach clubs and restaurants in Forte de Marmi are very busy during summer time, you need to book in advance but with excellent receptionists in the hotel all our requests have been accommodated and we had an excellent stay.

We stayed one night in this lovely hotel. The room was clean, modern with all the comforts and a nice bathroom. The breakfast was excellent with hot, cold dishes and with fresh home-made products, such as the delicious fresh jam. Very convenient private parking in front of the hotel. Finally, quality / price was excellent We will definitely be back next time.
