Such a tranquil spot, next to the walls of the Dar el Bacha palace, so it is surrounded by trees and birdsong yet very close to the Rue Mouassine and the fabulous buzz of the souks. I’m so glad I found this restful Riad with its beautiful courtyard (especially lovely by candlelight with the tamegroute fountain bubbling into petal-strewn water), and on the roof a terrace with loungers for sunbathing, a plunge pool to cool off and a gorgeous loggia shaded by beautiful flowering climbers. There are five bedrooms and mine was every bit as spacious and delightful as the photos on their website show, with some lovely decorative touches and cool, comfortable bedding. The manager, Loubna, was very helpful when I was booking and gave me a wonderful, warm welcome with mint tea in the salon and a delicious dinner organised for when I returned from my first evening in the square. Thereafter I was well looked after by her lovely team and especially by Abdul, who was very thoughtful. They serve lovely breakfasts with fresh fruits and local pancakes which I enjoyed on the terrace every morning. Riad Majala was a perfect choice and I was able to enjoy such peace while still so close to all the wonders of Marrakech.

Well, a spot to suggest in the Medina, near Jamaa el Fna, even though some miscommunication before arrival may upset you a little bit (it is the only thing to improve). This riad has a wonderful architecture, and it is definitely up to date as refurbishment. We had a suite (Alderamine, we were three) at the first floor, practically the room takes one whole side of the four sides of the building. Plenty of space for dresses and luggage, with state of the art furnishing in the room and bathroom. Breakfast was served at the ground floor, and definitely satisfactory. The riad has a terrace as well with loungers and a small swimming pool (or better to say a water spot where I guess it could be nice to refresh in hot summer days). It takes less than ten minutes walking to reach the hustle and bustle of Jamaa el Fna, streets may be a bit dark in the night, but absolutely safe. As I said, just two things to pay attention to, by the riad’s owner as well. Renting the cart at the Medina entrance of Bab Laksour may be not that nice if you arrive late in the evening, with just one guy still there. Mme Joëlle wrote us that 20 Dirham would have been enough, actually it was impossible to go lower than 100 Dirham, and actually almost fighting with the guy. Second thing is about the Parking Official 24, suggested by Mme Joëlle who was guessing a price of 50 Dirham/day. Actually, again after strong bargaining (I spent a lot of time in Morocco during my life) we finally agreed on 100 Dirham/day, but initially the guy asked me 200. My suggestion to the riad would be to agree on some fix rates for carts and parking, as these two bad details can put at risk a differenly fantastic experience. Special mention to the night porter, he has been actually the only person of the staff we met with at the riad, extremely nice and friendly.
