"A long-established hotel, the red house is particularly beautiful, the environment is elegant, and the service is considerate. The breakfast at 5,200 is a bit expensive, mainly because I don’t have time. The two kinds of beef for dinner are very delicious. It is a hotel I want to come to again next time."
"■There is a free shuttle bus from Matsumoto Sta.>>Hotel 16:00/17:00 Exit the station and walk to the right to wait for the bus near the police station. The bus will have a Shoho sign.
From the hotel>>Matsumoto Sta. 9:00/10:00 If you want to stop by near the castle, tell the driver. He will let you get off along the way before reaching the station.

"Convenient transportation, five minutes away from Matsumoto Station, close to the long-distance bus station, free supper at night, large bath, welcome drink that I didn't experience when I arrived at the hotel late, the room is also big and new. Next time I will experience breakfast, according to the reviews, it is also rich."

"The location is near but consider as far walking from station. It’s very far from the walking streets/ town and castle (approx 1km or slightly more). The bus/ transport couldn’t stop exact to those area hence walking is required. If you wanted to stay close to the station, there’s more better choices which more straight forward locate from the stations. Hotel buena vista just not as straight forward.
The staff is just junior inexperience. I have phone data issue and ask for wifi assistance. The wifi in the lobby is so weak that I couldn’t connect. I ended up going back to JR station to get the public wifi to fix my data. Staff just look at me without offering any solutions.
But one staff is kind and he stood at the lobby. He handed me the Matsumoto map for my exploring before the 3pm check in. Hey, I expected this is done by the one at the counter not this gentleman who stand at the hotel lobby!
When it mentioned hotel buena vista has good cafe etc etc .. it’s actually dated and nothing to shout about.
However the perks is to book a slot and visit the sister hotel closer to the mountain with the provided shuttle bus for their onsen facilities. That was top notch !!! Please book it earlier before it’s gone. However the slot available is dinner time. So please consider it."
"The hotel is only a 20 minute walk from the Upper Highland Bus Station. The public areas have been refurbished and the facilities are better. The rooms are old-fashioned hotel style, pillows and beds are just as usual. Good dinner. Take the child and don't want to toss, spend money to buy a convenient."
"Lived the best hotel in Japan. The place is small, but the layout is exquisite. Careful staff service. Carry your luggage to the room and explain each dish of dinner carefully. Indoor hot springs are arranged for men and women to change the hot spring room. Try two different arrangements. Dinner and breakfast are super good. The room was also very clean and comfortable. Especially recommended."
"The facilities in an old hot spring hotel are a bit outdated, and the waiters are all elderly and can only use translation software to communicate.
The size of the small suite is okay. The Japanese tatami is too hard to sleep on. There are not many public baths, but they are very hot. The most amazing thing is the private bath on the 6th floor. No reservation is required. It is first come first served. You can see the city view and the distance. Mountain
The set meals for dinner and breakfast are so-so and can only satisfy your needs"
"Amazing!!! Will definitely come back in the future...room rates are pricey but you get what you paid for. Food was like dining in a Michelin star restaurant. They have different types of onsen to suit your needs, from spacious onsen bath to deep bath and bed type bath."
"I had a wonderful experience here at Cafe&Stay Castana. The room was clean and comfortable, a great find at this price! The location is great with a free parking lot available, and with a huge supermarket conveniently located beside. However, I have to especially commend the staff, they were so friendly and accommodating to our needs! As you know, sometimes travellers are disoriented and stressed, and their willingness to help is deeply appreciated. I also had to ask for directions to a doctor as I fell sick, and they went above and beyond to take care of me. I could have only experienced this humanity at a small enterprise like this, and am very grateful."
"The front desk was welcoming and there was a Chinese staff who gave snacks to the children. The room has a high and low bed, the children are very happy, climbed up and down N times. However, the room was really small and the Japanese breakfast was not very used. It is more convenient to walk from Matsumoto Station for about five to ten minutes. Overall, the holiday booking price is a bit more expensive."

Excellent
GGuest UserThe hotel was only 10min walking distance from the bus station. The breakfast and dinner were very well prepared in the fine dining settings. The dormitory was very well kept, with basic accommodation facilities. Common toilets and bathrooms were only a few min away, but there were two basins within each of the dormitories.
Good accessibility especially to food and hiking attractions nearby.
IInstandyFukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!
GGuest UserIt is a very Japanese family hotel, satisfying foreigners' imagination of Japanese tatami rooms. Our room is called Kamikochi, on the first floor, with good lighting. The room itself is clean and tidy, and you can use the public bathroom to take a bath alone. There are many quiet rules. In short, even laughter should be controlled after 9 o'clock in the evening. But it is still relatively quiet at night (except for our neighbors who walk like monsters and slam the door hard 🥹). On Saturday morning, the construction site next door started work very early, at 7 or 8 o'clock 😅 The hotel is within walking distance to the city center, and it takes 30-40 minutes to walk to Matsumoto Castle and the Art Museum. You can overlook the snow-capped mountains in the distance from the nearby Wanchuan Bridge. There are ordinary houses nearby, and the safety is OK. In short, the cost performance of the stay is quite good.
AAngieBooked this place near Matsumoto city for my family to have a ryokan experience. It is about 15mins drive from the city and easy to find. There is also a Lawsons across the hotel if you want to get any snacks. But we didn’t need to as there was a welcome tea and snack and more tea and biscuits in the room. We had the family room which fit the 5 of us perfectly. There was the main room which can fit 3 and 2 more in the smaller room. The 2 toilets also made it convenient. Only downside was that we could hear water gushing through the pipes above in the night. We enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and morning breakfast. We were also allowed to reserve a 40min private session on the rooftop onsen. It was relaxing to have a hot soak in the cool night. Overall an enjoyable stay with excellent food and service!

AADOPTfamilyExcellent hotel in good location. Hotel warmly heated and comfortable despite very cold weather. Actually snowing during our stay. Enjoyed our stay. Multi-storey parking available off-site about 100m away for 1500yen, multiple entries/exits per day for fixed price.

DDemi.9.2The location to the whole Kamikouchi mountains, forest and rivers is just perfect, the view was spectacular and the customer service provided by the staff in the hotel was exceptional, even much so than any hotels I've met in Singapore.
My only slight disappointment was in the food and the onsen that's in there. Though the outdoor view of both onsens were wonderful, you don't get the hot ones like how you can get from the volcanic onsens in other onsen based hotels. Food wise the vegetables they probably get the produce from around the area, but it doesn't feel great. What I really loved from the food surprisingly is the seafood quality and their desserts were spectacular.
Would love to give the. 6stars out of 5stars for their service and location, but a 3 for the onsen, and 4 for the food.
AAnonymous UserA supermarket TSURUYA Nagisa is 450 meters away, and a familymart is 600 meters away. I didn't expect the hardware to be good, better than the previous one Matsumoto Hills, and much better than Sagamihara Crown Hills. But, I can say something about the breakfast, the hot milk tea in the beverage machine is so delicious
