Overall good. You can go again.
I was worried if there was a picture of Goemon bath because there was no picture of the Goemon bath, but there is a Goemon [Wind] bath properly. It is not something to make a fire and boil yourself. It used to be a goemon bath that boiled with fire, but now I put hot water in the old goemon bath. (There is also a clean inner bath in the room)
The facilities were clean and the rooms were spacious 々 comfortable. The barbecue space outside is easy to use, and the lighting is bright at night and I don't feel any inconvenience. Don't forget to prepare the net.
I think the refrigerator is small if it is large, so I think it is good to bring a cooler box in summer.
The lodge is close to the mount aso with a handful of cozy rooms. The host is kind and friendly. They serve well curated dinner and breakfast in japanese western style. It has been a nice stay.

The air-conditioned vacation home consists of 4 bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave and a coffee machine, and 2 bathrooms with a bidet and slippers. The resort location is accessible actually by bus from tateno 立野 station and the last bus is in the evening you may check the timetable online. We did not drive and leaving the accommodation is less convenient because all taxis were booked out but the staff was very friendly as to driving us to the nearby train station to continue our journey to Aso Volcano.
Service was good. The private onzen was amazing and we were able to use it for one hour. The public bath was good too but the amenities they provided inside were not as enough, eg they don't have comb for ladies and make up removing pads. Other than that, cleanliness was amazing and staff were friendly, rooms had amazing Mountain View's.
On my trip to Aso Volcano, I stayed at Asunara Resort this time. Their mushroom house is very cute and can accommodate 4 people. The bathroom is very narrow and tall people may bump their heads. The dressing room outside is also very small. It is also easy for others to see when changing clothes.
Speaking of entertainment facilities, there are hot springs and steam rooms. But you have to pay for it at your own expense, ¥3000 all-inclusive.
The farmhouse and game facilities are also charged separately. Remember to arrange the time for the activities. Check-in at the resort is at 4 o'clock and check-out at 10 o'clock. The zoo enters at 9 o'clock and closes at 5 o'clock. I usually pick up a room in the afternoon after visiting the volcano, and then visit the zoo the next day (at my own expense). In the end, I give up visiting the zoo, which is a pity.
It was the best location to see the stars! Starry sky tour, the best.
There was a small planetarium, and some people were snoring in less than five minutes to a comfortable voice.
The observatory's telescope has 2 and it's a little blurred, but I saw the stars explained in the planetarium.
The starry sky observation in the grassland was warm in the sleeping bag, and the bonfire and hot drink were delicious.
I could see the starry sky as I saw in the planetarium.
I was surprised that the room was in the woods but there were no insects at all. The surroundings are rich in nature, and it is a very pleasant place to hear the voices of birds and frogs.
The appearance and furniture were cute, and when I fell on the bed, I saw the stars from the skylight.
The breakfast was very delicious, despite the suddenness.
The water from the tap water is natural water from Aso, and when I take a bath, it smells soft and gentle.
Amenities were also available and comfortable.
It is a fairy tale nearby, and it is recommended to touch animals.
As soon as you enter the hotel, you will be greeted warmly. The waiter was smiling, spoke politely, and had no problem communicating in simple English. The hotel is not new, but it is well maintained, clean and comfortable, making it easy to relax and have a rest. Facing Mount Aso, the scenery is beautiful. The room is large, has a private hot spring in the room, and the dinner is rich and delicious. It's about half an hour's drive from Aso Nakadake. It's highly recommended if you're chartering a car or traveling by car.
I originally wanted to go to Kurokawa Onsen, but it was too popular and all the good hotels were booked. When looking for alternative options, I accidentally noticed Minami Aso Village. Although it is not as well-known as Kurokawa, its comprehensive index is not inferior at all.
In terms of transportation, take the Hohi Main Line from Kumamoto to Higo Otsu and then change to the same line to Tateno Station. There are also trains that can go directly to Tateno Station, but there are not many trains. Most of them go to Higo Otsu, so you have to change once. In addition, please note that IC cards cannot be swiped at Tateno Station, and all cards cannot be used. Remember to buy a ticket when taking a bus to Tateno Station, and never swipe the card when entering the station. After arriving at Tateno Station, change to Minami Aso Railway. This is a private railway line that focuses on One Piece. It is very distinctive and the scenery along the way is also very healing. It is considered a tourist attraction. Note that Minami Aso Railway cannot swipe cards. Get on the train at the back door to get a ticket, and get off the train at the front door to pay cash. If you don’t have change, you can use the two change machines on the train to exchange, which is very convenient. The nearest station to the hotel is Hakusui-kogen Station. You can contact the hotel in advance to arrange a time. They can pick you up at the station. If you find it troublesome and want to walk around and see the rural scenery of Japan, it took us about an hour to walk to the hotel and take pictures along the way. The second half was a bit tiring because it was a climb.
In terms of attractions, we went to the popular Kamishiromi Kumanoza Shrine. It was worth the trip. The hotel was also very considerate to help pick us up at Hakusui-kogen Station. From here, take the tram to Takamori Station, and then change to the Sanko Bus Kamishiromi Loop Line. The back mountain of the hotel is actually quite nice to visit. We found an ancient site called Sixteen Arhats on the map and wanted to explore it. Unfortunately, the epidemic has not been maintained for several years, and the road up the mountain is broken and cannot be walked, but the scenery along the way is still good.
In terms of dining, the hotel includes two meals, both of which are eaten in the room. The main dishes are sukiyaki, small hot pot and steamed beef. The side dishes are sashimi, horse meat sashimi, pot, steamed food, etc., which are very rich and taste good.
As for the hot springs, the hotel's feature is that each room has its own private hot spring, which should be more in line with the preferences of Chinese people and also suitable for couples. I basically took three hot springs a day during the few days I stayed there, which was not too comfortable.
Not too much or too little. Clean and spacious room. The hot springs attached to the room are not big, but enough to enjoy. The food is not gorgeous, but it is not too much, so I am satisfied. You can see the building on the pond in the lounge where you can drink coffee and the atmosphere is good and it is good to take pictures.

GGuest UserOur recent stay at a charming guesthouse felt like stepping into the pages of a fairytale. The entire house exuded simplicity and warmth, reminiscent of a storybook setting. The gracious host welcomed us with genuine enthusiasm, even though our grasp of Japanese was limited. Despite the language barrier, we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the sumptuous dinner. We were almost too full to continue after indulging in the feast. The homemade hamburger steak, lovingly prepared by the host, was exceptionally delicious. If you’re seeking a heartwarming experience in Aso, I highly recommend giving this guesthouse a try.
JJI YUNHave you read the detective novel by British writer Agatha Christie? She has a work called ”Crimes in the Sun”, which is about a group of tourists vacationing on a sunny island. Suddenly an extremely strange murder happened... When we walked into this hotel, I Suddenly thought of Christie's novel in his mind. In the remote and quiet countryside, a hotel with a strong classic flavor stands alone. There is an elegant restaurant in the hotel with about ten rooms. Through the window of the guest room, you can see the smoke erupting from Mount Aso and the rolling mountains in the distance. The surroundings of the hotel are quiet, full of greenery. Everything fits perfectly with the scene in Christie's work...Of course, nothing changed in the end. We spent two happily nights here, soaking in the natural hot springs in the hotel every morning and evening. The boss’s cooking skills are good, and the breakfast she cooked is very delicious. highly recommended.
GGuest UserWe are a couple from Australia and I only speak a little Japanese. This was a truly AMAZING experience! The staff were so kind and friendly, giving us assistance was no issue for them. The location is stunning, the private onsen was glorious and the dinners and breakfasts were bigger than we could possibly eat (and we love our food). The price point for this experience was so good - fantastic value for money. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a little adventure in the heart of countryside Japan.
If you get the chance to also visit Minamiaso (they will take you there at no extra charge) for the day, grab some e-bikes and have a ride around- take in the beautiful scenery and wonderful food options.
DDD. BIG EYEWe are traveling by car. It would be a bit troublesome to go there by ourselves. The hotel is located on a golf course. If you stay here, you must stay and eat two meals. Because there is nothing nearby, you must drive out for about two to thirty minutes. Supermarkets and gourmet food! There is a large parking lot nearby where you can park for free. There is also Qianqiu outside the park. The scenery is good, but the portion for one parking and two meals is too small! Not full enough! So be sure to buy snacks 😆 This is a hot spring hotel, with indoor and outdoor facilities, and the hot spring facilities are also good!
AAnonymous UserThe location is very good, it is very convenient to go to Aso Volcano in the morning! There are plenty of parking spaces, which is very good for self-driving tours. The rooms are relatively Japanese-style and old, but clean! The room is very spacious and there is also a hot spring to soak in! There are both outdoor and indoor facilities, so it’s very suitable to reserve time to soak in the hot springs.
GGuest UserThis is a great place to stay if you want to be in a peaceful and quiet location. It is in the village with not much disturbances. The owner is very helpful and try to answer your questions about bus and train services in the area. You can find some local restaurants nearby using your Google map. The restaurants are close around 3 to 4 pm most days. The closing hours for the restaurants are not accurate. This is a small town; if they don’t have costumers after a certain hours in the evening, they will be closed. Be mindful about that and come prepared with snacks and food!
GGuest UserMy stay here was entirely on a whim. I had be looking for good places to hike and jn the process stumbled across it.
In the end the weather didn't want to play bad for the hiking. What was provided made for excellent respite in the middle of a long journey.
The facilities provided were better than imagined with 3 onsen to use and the rooms being A grade.
The shining star for me was the staff. They were professional and helpful throughout. Doing their best to help me be comfortable in my stay. Many who spoke English and those who didn't still managed to help in every instance.
Everyone at the establishment has my heartfelt thanks.
