Review of Hotel Santa Lucia, Amalfi Our stay at Hotel Santa Lucia in Amalfi had both highlights and disappointments. While the hotel had many great qualities, one unfortunate experience left us feeling uneasy. The Good 1. Fantastic Location – The hotel is close to the sea and port, making it a convenient base for exploring Amalfi. It’s also near the bus stop, which made traveling around the area very easy. 2. Friendly and Helpful Staff – Most of the staff were welcoming and accommodating, always ready to assist with any questions. 3. Delicious Food – The food was lovely, with good portion sizes and a nice selection of dishes to choose from. We enjoyed every meal we had at the hotel. 4. Clean and Spacious Rooms – The hotel was very clean, and our room was spacious and well-maintained. It was comfortable and nicely decorated. 5. Smooth Check-in – The check-in process was quick and hassle-free, which was a great start to our stay. The Not-So-Good 1. Room Location & Accessibility Issues – Our room was on the other side of the hotel, requiring us to step out onto the veranda and cross over to reach it. This became problematic when it rained, as there was no roof covering the walkway between the main hotel and our room. 2. Concerns About Security – Unfortunately, we had a troubling experience regarding our luggage and personal belongings: We never locked our luggage, as we trusted that nothing would go missing. However, upon opening one of our suitcases, we found that the interior straps were wet—something we found very odd, as the luggage was far from any water sources, and neither of us had touched it with wet hands. We had locked the safe using the key given to us, but when we returned to our room, we discovered that the safe was unlocked. To add to our concerns, I was looking for my Ralph Lauren ballet pumps to wear for the evening and eventually found one hidden under a chair with a skirt around its legs. My husband had neatly arranged all our shoes under the table near the door, so it was puzzling that only this particular pair had been moved. Fortunately, we don’t carry money or valuables, so nothing was stolen, but the fact that someone had gone through our belongings was unsettling. While the majority of the staff were lovely, this experience left us disappointed and uncomfortable. Final Thoughts While the hotel had many positives—a great location, friendly staff, good food, and cleanliness—the security concerns overshadowed our experience. It’s disappointing to feel uneasy about personal belongings when staying in a hotel. Because of this, sadly, we wouldn’t return.
