La Casa Amarilla

I enjoyed my three nights at the Casa Amarilla. It’s a small hotel just a 30 second walk from Magdalena River. It is located in the old town at one end of the main ***** of historic houses, churches and plazas on the river. The city is making a pedestrian area going the other direction, so when it is finished the hotel will be even better situated. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. The hotel was a private residence in its past life, but the current owner did a great job converting it to a hotel while maintaining a feeling of an intimacy. They have a private bath, air conditioning, and are cleaned daily. The Casa Amarilla is not a destination in itself. It is a comfortable place to sleep, have breakfast take a rest during the day, but if you expect a resort style stay, it is not for you. A tasty breakfast of fruit, eggs, arepa and bread with orange juice and coffee to drink is included. The clerks and housekeepers were so friendly and helpful. They would go out of their way to provide information, give recommendations and arrange excursions. They worked hard to make sure we had a great stay. (fyi to the best of my knowledge, the staff is not bilingual, so be prepared if you don’t speak Spanish.) I enjoyed my visit immensely and would stay at the Casa Amarilla again on a trip to Mompos.

This is nicest place in a town of enchanted of places . You will feel like you are an honored guest in a local estate of times gone by. Everything is spotless. The staff is incredibly helpful and attentive. They can book you a river tour. English is spoken as Richard the owner is a renowned journalist in Columbia. His wife is local and the whole family makes sure to that you feel at home . I loved the breezy sitting room. The location is central with everything the town has to offer in walking distance. The place is super clean with hotel amenities such as shampoo etc. I hope to return soon! Thank you Richard it was a privilege staying at Casa Amarilla.

Very nice colonial house in front of river Magdalena at one very end of the town (but it’s no problem given the size of Mompox). The rooms have a window facing the inner courtyard, unluckily without window panes, so that if you want to have AC you have to close the blinds and it’s pitch dark. The furniture is basic, no closet, no fridge, no safe and no complimentary water. The mattress was too soft and the pillow too high. The bathroom is large enough with space for your toiletries, no glass for tooth brush, no hairdryer, the shower had no hot water and it tended to spray a little everywhere. AC works well (it’s only in the rooms but there are fans everywhere) and so does WiFi. Breakfast is served in the courtyard and you get a bowl of fruit, juice, eggs and tea or coffee. My eggs were very salted on the second day.
