São Lourenço do Barrocal

The first thing you’ll hear when you arrive are birds chirping. It’s like stepping into Garden of Eden. The hotel is world class in terms of architecture, amenities, service and history. The concierge is very helpful and knowledgeable, they gave me a personalised itinerary suggestions when I checked in, arranged taxis, and even made sure to check on my safety as I am a solo lady travelling in Portugal. Highly recommend this place for a peaceful retreat. It’s a perfect getaway for stressed out business travellers.

A great place for a relaxing holiday. Spacious rooms, Very nice pool in the meadow, feeling of spaciousness, freedom, along with excellent service. Nice smell of herbs in the rooms and public areas. Very pleasant shop with perfect souvenir. Good workshops.

We absolutely loved this hotel! From the minute that we booked our stay, we felt well cared for. The hotel is absolutely charming. The rooms are cozy and beautifully decorated. We booked two nights and on our morning of departure, we just wanted to stay another night. The breakfasts were delicious with extensive options and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. We will be back and will recommend this hotel to all of our friends. Definitely worth a visit!

What a great place to stay for a few nights . From the very warm welcome from the porter that parked the car to the reception staff nothing was to much trouble. Great food in the restaurant and a well stocked bar . Rooms were very spacious clean with all the amenities you need. Great activities from wine tasting to bee keeping, horse riding on the estate, to making plates at the local pottery. Can’t wait to go back

To celebrate a 70th birthday celebration, we decided to visit the Algarve in Portugal and tour Andalusia in Spain. We drove from Lisbon to Monsaraz to stay 3 nights at Sao Lourenco Do Barrocal but we could have stayed longer. There is SO MUCH to see and do here, or you can just relax and do nothing at all but soak up the peaceful beauty. We visited the "mini-stonehenge" or almendres cromlechs near Evora and then spent the evening star-gazing at Sao Lourenco with a genuine expert (we loved seeing Saturn's rings). We were impressed with the olive oil tasting that included a tour of the property (so meaningful and memorable). All of our meals exceeded our expectations and the hospitality was truly amazing! We loved our room overlooking the castle at Monsaraz and enjoyed it even more after driving over to explore all of the streets and stunning views. We also enjoyed a Michelin-star dinner next door at a neighboring property (this was all arranged for us by the concierge at Sao Lourenco do Barrocal). This is one of the very few places in the world that we want to return and extend our stay, knowing that we will be welcomed and immersed in true culture of the people and land of Alentejo, Portugal.
