The chateau is beautiful, with areas for eating and drinking out doors in the lovely grounds. It is located in Montreuil, which is a great town with amazing bars and eateries. The chateau staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us

A lofty, historical hotel near the city walls and walking distance of the centre. Nicely decorated rooms, comfortable bed, large bathroom. Magnificent garden where it is nice to sit outside and relax. Great breakfast, with fantastic bread. Restaurant to be honest was a bit of a disappointment. We had 2 nights in a row dinner. First was ok: nice seating outside, we took 3 dishes a la Carte. Food was ok. Next day it was raining rather hard in the evening so in stead of going out for dinner we decided to stay in the hotel and have dinner there again. We took the 6 course discovery menu. A number of the dishes we had were the same as what we had the day before, so not much discovery there. We had the same waiters so a bit surprised they didn’t “warn” us about the fact that we would be eating largely the same as the night before. Summary: great hotel, but within walking distance there are much better restaurants to have dinner.

You know as soon as you arrive that you are going to enjoy yourselves. The staff are without exception charming and anxious to assist and our room was delightful. For dinner we had the Chef's menu with wines for each course selected for us, which exceeded all expectations. In a long life of self indulgence, I can't remember anywhere to exceed the Chateau de Montreuil!

Having stayed before we learned on arrival that the hotel had changed hands twice. With a car full of luggage we booked and paid for private parking, but found it was a derelict lot with overgrown garden about 150 metres away. We parked amongst the weeds. The Suite was very tired and very expensive. The mirrors on the ceiling and walls in the bathroom made having a bath a disconcerting experience! It could all do with a lot of TLC. Breakfast was very disappointing and shambolic. The orange juice had run out and was from the packet concentrate. The buffet was a small selection of foods on a small table in a small side room. No protection against germs. Once on or two people got located in front of the table, the rest of us had to wait as there was no other space. Butter was a slab on a plate, by the time we got there the slab had nearly gone and the thought of many people pokeing it around didn't appeal. Cheese and ham nearly run out. "Hot courses" was eggs or...eggs. Definately not a €20 4 star experience.

The first time we have stayed at the Chateau having previously stayed at other hotels in the area. Everything was as described we checked in and we’re shown to one of our the cottage type rooms slightly adjacent to the main chateau. On two floors this quiet peaceful location was fantastic and just suited our needs. A small entrance sitting room style room meets you on entry with the bedroom with stunning views located just up the stairs. The bathroom and separate shower are located downstairs but there is a small WC within the bedroom as well. Over looking a small private courtyard we’re we spent one afternoon relaxing with a bottle of wine. A short walk to the main hotel for breakfast was absolutely fine and gave us the opportunity to see the gardens as we strolled across. Definitely recommend and will definitely be booking again.

My partner and I visited with friends who were celebrating their wedding anniversary. They had stayed several times previously and kept returning because it was such a pretty quintessential French chateau with an excellent restaurant. Unfortunately this experience was dreadful. We were not aware that the chateau had changed hands and the new owners had undertaken extensive renovation, in our opinion sacrificing the charm of the hotel with modern soulless decor, artificial grass to the rear of the building and a large arch of plastic wisteria over the main entrance. However we appreciated it was partly our fault that we had not checked it had changed hands or been “updated” so although extremely disappointed we decided to stay for the 2 nights we had booked. What a mistake that was ! We had reservations in the hotel restaurant both night and anticipated a lovely anniversary dinner. Three of us, myself included, ordered the lobster main course. I had just had a couple of bites of mine when I felt something in my mouth. I gingerly extracted the offending article to find to my horror that it was a curly thin wire over an inch in length . I dread to think what could have happened if I had swallowed this. We called the waiter over and discreetly explained the situation. He apologised and removed my meal, offering another one but this experience put off not only me but the other lady from eating any further. We asked to speak to the hotel management but were told that there was no one present until the morning when he would get someone to speak to us. We asked to speak to the chef and we’re told that he would see us when he had finished cooking…. This didn’t happen. No one seemed to care. The next morning we fully expected to be approached by someone senior but nobody spoke to us . We didn’t have our previously booked breakfast or any further food in the hotel yet incredibly no one addressed what had happened the night before. On check out the following day we spoke to a girl on reception . She said she had heard about our experience but yet again management were not available to speak to us. My meal and a bottle of champagne were deducted from the bill. We had to argue that my friend had not eaten hers either after my experience but I want to stress that this dreadful review is not about the money but about the non existent customer service and care. We are astounded at such lack of concern and will obviously not be returning to what was once such an amazing establishment

We were only able to stay for one night but I am pleased to say we had a very good experience and would certainly return. I can highly recommend the Elegance rooms which were large , comfortable and had huge bathrooms , with new showers and a full sized bath. The original 1930s decoration in these rooms is stunning. The location is quiet and the views are good. The staff are all young , energetic, friendly and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner at the hotel which was very good and the breakfast had a large range of high quality cold and hot dishes. There is ample parking outside the hotel and I believe they have other dedicated parking too. Its a short walk into town which is very historic and interesting. Its only an hour from Calais and its a lovely place for a few days or longer

Appalling service. We booked for 26-28th May. Our room sadly reeked of chemical toilet cleaner but it was also a double bed! I am sharing with my 88yr old mother and had requested a twin- this was reconfirmed . Manager did not care. We came home
