We called in by chance, with our elderly mother, during the late afternoon, and we were treated with good humour and generosity by the staff. Great sandwich, excellent hot chocolate, and, according to my brother, fine beer. We will be back for sure, and can recommend wholeheartedly.

Drove for an hour to visit the anchor and was really looking forward to a Sunday roast! But alas it wasn’t good. Feeding the masses came to mind, food had obviously been cooked quite a while previously (lots of it) sometimes a good thing. Hard potatoes soggy Yorkshire pudding, I could go on but you probably get the drift. Dining room felt like an OAP home. On the plus side the river exe is beautiful

As others here have mentioned the Anchor has good surroundings right next to the River Exe! It's a large pub with more than ample sitting/dining areas, there is also a large beer garden and a play area for the kids. It's a clean and very modern pub. The menu is very good, and the quality of the food was excellent. The staff were more than helpful and most efficient. The one gripe I will make is about the very small toilets, the smallest I have ever used! If you are 6-foot tall and using the cubicle then you are going to struggle. Nevertheless, I still recommend a visit to the Anchor.

The owners have pitched this pub just right. Perfect for families, couples or a swift pint if you are on your own. Food amazing with whopping portions. Chef really flexible and can cook everything on the menu to an exceptional standard. The setting is beautiful against the back drop of a River and beautifully tended gardens. We have a holiday let on Exmoor and advise all our guests to come here and it never disappoints. Huge credit to the owners and the staff, who are always really friendly.

When I phoned up to enquire if the pub was pet friendly, the staff said yes, we are pet friendly. Well I took my pet wasp with me, and within literally 2 minutes of being there, one of the bar staff killed my pet wasp by drowning it in a glass of Coca Cola. Needless to say, I was not very happy. Luckily for me though, I have plenty more pet wasps where that one came from!!!!

Had a fantastic meal here this evening. Great staff and lovely food. I had the scampi which was excellent with great chips, peas and salad. My partner has the belly pork which was a massive portion with mash and really great vegetables cooked to perfection. Couldn’t fault it in any way.
